Operation Essence Fest Hub 2024 was a huge success. The OPSO CVR Unit and partners worked the entire Essence Fest weekend handing out safety information in busy areas of the city. Approximately 90 victims, including 73 domestic violence victims, four armed robbery cases, two simple burglary, and one child abuse case, were contacted by our partners. They were each advised about the resources that are available to them as someone who was victimized.

Detective Sergeant - Specialising in Policing Stalking. Cheshire Constabulary at Cheshire Police (Cheshire Constabulary)
Here's an idea to enhance victim safety: Implement 24/7 monitored GPS tagging for all convicted stalkers. A non-negotiable measure during protective orders or state supervision. This brings us a lot closer to accountability and control. Safety should not be a luxury. The technology is there. Yes it costs money but at what cost would we not fund it? Central funding could make standardised GPS tagging of convicted stalkers a reality and prioritise the safety of victims. #CommunitySafety #stalking

Understand How Abusers Scare, Silence and Control Their Victims When survivors first seek help, they often believe the lies their abuser has told them, which prevents them from reaching out to their support system or speaking up about the abuse. Abusers make threats to scare, silence, and control their victims because they know their actions are abusive and fear the victim may get help. These threats are a tactic used by abusers to maintain control over their victims. While some threats may seem empty, it's crucial not to dismiss them, as physically violent abusers may follow through. For one's safety, it's important to seek help at the first sign of trouble and not allow the abuser's threats to discourage reaching out for support and protection.
