Can Germany afford a four-day work week? That was a key question of a six-month pilot project in Europe's largest economy. The results are encouraging: employees' mental and physical health improved significantly and companies found it easier to recruit hard-to-find staff - without any negative impact on financial performance. But it wasn't for everyone. Some 20% of the companies decided to return to the five-day week - a higher proportion than in previous trials in the UK or Portugal. Over the past few months, I have spoken to SOLIDSENSE GmbH and EuroLam GmbH - two of the 45 firms involved in the pilot. They had two very different experiences: Solidsense said the shorter week was "economically profitable" for them, while Eurolam was disappointed and will return to the five day week. Find out why it did (not) work in my article for Bloomberg Businessweek: https://lnkd.in/e3_ibQXx #FourDayWorkWeek #Germany #WorkLifeBalance
