Not all plates are the same – especially when it comes to treating rib fractures. So, which plate is ideal? Acumed’s RibLoc® U Plus plate. A biomechanical study in the European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery agrees. It compares the RibLoc U Plus plate versus an anterior plate for the open reduction internal fixation of rib fractures. ACL Reconstruction is a surgery that I perform often here at OrthoVirginia. This surgery is usually performed on young athletes who do a lot of pivot-shifting sports. My role in the surgery is typically straightforward - it's the patient's recovery journey that makes this a tough injury. Viability of BIO-RSA A great opportunity to assess the viability and effectiveness of BIO-RSA was presented by a CT scan conducted 7 months after surgery. A 69-year-old woman tripped while walking her dog, resulting in an injury to her reverse shoulder, which was 7 months old. Although no abnormalities were visible on the X-ray, a CT scan was conducted due to her persistent pain. Fortunately, the scan ruled out any fractures but revealed something even more promising: the bone graft (BIO-RSA) was completely intact with no signs of resorption, and the base plate remained stable without any loosening. This outcome supports my belief that BIO-RSA is a very reliable method in reverse shoulder arthroplasty for increasing glenoid offset and correcting its defects (retroversion or inclination). #PatientSpecificBioRsa #shoulder #shouldersrthroplasty #orthopedics Stryker #blueprint
