Part of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) #businessrevolution is the dare to make a business run in a different way. To choose to prioritize producers AND consumers. The market's status quo currently pushes businesses towards exploitation for short term reward over health, wellbeing, environment, and happiness. It tricks us to think that quality of product, quality of life, and business success are mutually exclusive! The #businessrevolution calls us to understand profit in a different way. Considering that trade fairs and events are responsible for 1.3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year in the US alone (2022), and that the average three-day trade fair for 1,000 visitors generates more than 5 tonnes of waste, the shift towards 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲. There is no shortage of trade fairs that focus entirely on the environment, but there is also one like this year's #DRUPA, where sustainability is one of the most important themes. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? Here are some tips: - 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, engage visitors with a clear, greener message, show that you really care, - 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬, instead choose email invitations, touch screens, QR codes, - ask for 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬, - if possible, insist on 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 for delegated event staff. When 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫, start by: - considering choosing a stand design based on 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫, - opting for 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, - choosing 𝐋𝐄𝐃 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠. Our observations suggest that trade 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 more frequently. It is worth being among the awardees and leaving the competition behind. Interzoo 2024 was the most exciting, inspiring, informative and international trade fair of all time – a trade fair that set 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬, even if the organiser’s target of 40 000 visitors was not quite reached. In the middle of this year – more precisely from 4-6 June – “The Tire Cologne” will open its doors again. The leading trade fair for the tyre industry will then take place in Cologne for the third time. But again, the conditions are somehow completely different: If the premiere took place in 2018 and therefore before the corona pandemic, the second edition – actually planned for 2020 - made a very respectable “restart” after being postponed to 2022 due to the pandemic and did so again a step towards normalization, so what exactly follows number three? Our international colleagues at Neue Reifenzeitung spoke about this with Ingo Riedeberger, who acts as “Tire Cologne” director at the organizer Koelnmesse GmbH. According to him, the pandemic has acted “like a turning point” for trade fairs, and the event about tyres/wheels, retreading/recycling and workshop/vehicle service, which starts in Cologne in a few months, is no exception. Nevertheless, it remains an “issue driver in the global tyre industry”. And even if companies plan a possible presence there “more quickly than before the pandemic”, they still expect “the event to be revived”. With the same hall set-up as in 2022, Koelnmesse will have around half more exhibitors than two years ago, when there were 300 and in 2018 there were a good 530. https://lnkd.in/eVrbcx37

The first recorded trade fair - 1150 AD No prizes for guessing that the first documented trade fair took place in Frankfurt, and 800 years later, the city remains one of the most popular destinations for trade fairs in the world. These early trade fairs focused on agricultural products and wine, which, I like to think, have now evolved into the many food & wine markets of europe. Disclaimer: although this may be the first officially documented trade fair, bazzars and barter markets have existed throughout all of history to facilitate trade, for example along the silk/ spice route. Interclean 2024 Amsterdam The Interclean Show, which takes place every two years, is one of the most important international trade fairs for the cleaning industry. For four days last week, the trade fair for cleaning and hygiene brought together more than 900 exhibitors and around 35,000 buyers and trade visitors from all over the world. The organizer RAI Amsterdam speaks of the "largest and most inspiring Interclean of all time". A wide range of new developments and products for professional cleaning could be seen in eleven halls. Design by Weinberg & Ruf was represented by several exhibitors. Design from China is also on the rise. Here, however, it was noticeable that although some design approaches were new, the concepts and principles themselves were diligently copied. But it is precisely in the conception and definition of device types that the greatest development effort lies. Changing the styling is no longer a big step. One can only advise the German R&D managers to better protect their developments from imitation.
