Can someone educate me why exactly do we have a specific number of years requirement for every role? e.g. Looking for a Call Center Agent with 5 years experience. I mean why 5 years exactly? What about young blood with only a year's experience yet passion to outperform oldies? Won't he/she be a better fit? Why can't HR managers just waive off such absurd and rigid experience requirements? Why do they feel the need to hire an expert for every position? Where do they pull out such experience requirements from? I am interested in knowing.

To answer your last question first, the experience requirement always comes from the department manager for which a person is to be hired. In most cases during first screening those candidates are also shortlisted by HR aho have good skills and can be a fit in, rather than those with 5 years of experience. And for some companies and managers, hiring is a pain so they prefer to follow a set pattern and avoid all the fuss of screening and interviews, to hire someone faster , and experienced who should pick up quicker than a newcomer.

Most the times, these requirements donot come in from HR managers. The respective Heads/Managers of departments create this criteria. They have this excuse of knowing better than the HR. I have worked as an HR Manager in 2 organisations. I have screened and recruited countless talents. I was and still am in favour of fresh graduates. Most personnel in HR are, since they are confident in their abilities to manage workforce. In my experience, fresh graduates should be given fair chance as the amount of dedication they bring in to the role is simply astounding. Moreover, hiring chance should be fair and equal for everyone. Period.

I personally, won't get it, sometimes, it get back to me that i am over experienced for the job and we are needed someone with a little fresh and experienced and sometime they say i have 3 years of exposure but requirement is 5 years, Idk, might be they are just checking how people are doing and how we can get them feel rejected. May be I'm wrong on the last statement, but that is what i felt so far.
