The Arizona Department of Transportation has made significant progress in deploying conduit and dark fiber along its critical transportation corridors, including I-17, I-19 and I-40W. These advancements mark a significant step toward enhancing connectivity and unlocking new opportunities for communities, service providers, carriers and more across the region. The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with Arizona Commerce Authority and eX2 Technology, a Vivacity Company, is providing this middle-mile dark fiber infrastructure on an open access basis to support the development of high-speed, reliable communications networks that foster innovation and economic growth. Additionally, these corridors present exciting wireless development opportunities that can enable Arizona as a hub for cutting-edge technology and connectivity solutions. Looking ahead, plans for future communications infrastructure along I-10 and I-8 will expand the reach of this transformative infrastructure. Technology is a key component of transportation infrastructure solutions. According to Brookings, in 2024 the U.S. DOT sent about $61 billion to states via formula funds to address "state transportation planning". The article walks through some state examples of implementation and planning methodology. Below is from the article and highlights the flow of funds down to the "transportation network".
