On #SocialMobilityDay, we recognise the vital role the financial sector plays in driving equitable opportunities. Our commitment to DE&I means actively working to dismantle barriers that prevent talented individuals from all socio-economic backgrounds, from thriving in our industry. ❓Did you know: 👥 social class affects career progression more than gender or ethnicity, and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds are not moving up the ladder within financial services 🏢 89% of senior leaders in Financial Services are from a higher socio-economic background 📈 people from a lower socio-economic background progress 25% slower than their peers, despite no link to performance. We have a critical role in promoting upward mobility and inclusive growth, and that’s why we are supporting Making The Leap’s Social Mobility Day. #sharemoments | #SocialInclusion | #WeAreOSB

The true measure of our progress is not just in the heights we reach but in how many we bring along with us. Today, on Social Mobility Day, I am reminded that social mobility is not just a goal; it is a necessity for a fair and just society. It’s about breaking the chains of circumstance and ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. When we champion social mobility, we are not just changing individual lives; we are unlocking the boundless potential of entire communities and driving forward the progress of our society. By investing in people, providing equal opportunities, and fostering an environment where talent and hard work are the only prerequisites for success, we can create a world where everyone has the chance to thrive. Let’s commit to tearing down barriers and building bridges that connect ambition with opportunity. We can all play a part. #socialmobilityday Major, Lindsey & Africa

Social Mobility is a cause we wholeheartedly believe in, and we loved listening to everyone share their stories and moments on Social Mobility Day. But it’s crucial that we keep these conversations going all year round, so that we can continue to push for equal opportunities and improve access to careers. To carry on the discussion, here’s a short clip from Kerry and why Social Mobility is so important to her. #sharemoments #socialmobility #SMD2024

To improve social mobility in the UK, employers need to put socio-economic diversity, equity and inclusion at the heart of their organisations This is one of the reasons why Making The Leap founded by Tunde Banjoko OBE initiated Social Mobility Day 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆? Social mobility tells us how likely we are to climb up (or fall down) the economic or social ladder of life Most studies focus on intergenerational mobility, which describes movement in status during a person’s own lifetime, from childhood to adulthood While sociologists track the changing status of people in terms of social classes, based on the jobs people and their parents do; economists on the other hand traditionally assess mobility patterns by studying individual or family earnings and income For further information on marking 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆 as an individual and/or for your organisation you will find resources here: ℹ https://lnkd.in/eStgfXWY Want to know more about how organisations can increase socio-economic diversity? Social mobility can’t be solved in isolation – and the Social Mobility Commission's newly released State of the Nation report makes this clear. There are much wider, systemic issues that have to be addressed in order to tackle social mobility. From ethnicity and parental jobs to the local authority you’re born in, countless factors impact life chances. The report also makes it clear that place-based approaches, which take a holistic view to the blockers to opportunities, are the most effective. At The Talent Foundry, we’re committed to levelling the playing field for young people by equipping them with the core employability skills, and introducing them to careers and pathways they may not have known were available to them. Last year alone, we supported over 600 schools across 150+ local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales. We strongly believe in the power of opportunity. We’re pleased that the Social Mobility Commission’s findings continue to support our approach, and are encouraged that the report shows that levels of inequality are showing signs of reducing. By working with more schools and partners than ever before, we’re making a real lasting difference. https://lnkd.in/eu2yV2kY #Socialmobility #opportunity #employabilityskills #futureofwork #SocialMobilityCommission #BreakingBarriers

Award winning CEO, Non - Executive Director, Speaker, Consultant and Equality Champion - On a mission create a world where your Career is not determined by your birth!
Who's Ready to Rethink Social Mobility? Why is it that the same few names keep cropping up in boardrooms, directorships and C-suite offices? It seems the term 'social mobility' is often misunderstood. Social mobility isn't about elevating a select few individuals from marginalised communities into positions of influence. It's about breaking down systemic barriers and creating access points so all individuals can ascend to their full potential. In conclusion, let’s expand our understanding of social mobility. Real progress won't be ticked boxes or banner headlines, but a shift in our societal structures that enables everyone to climb, not just those who've already found the ladder. #SocialEquality #AccessForAll #SocialMobility #MoveToEquity
