Strawberry enthusiastic 🍓

Hi everybody ! This season has been very enriching for me. I worked as a « chef de culture » on a 2,2ha strawberry production site under greenhouses, the boss was hardly ever here and I had to make decisions on a day-to-day basis. Regarding crop: I learnt a lot about climate control in greenhouses over the seasons, but also about the energy balance required by the different varieties. From collecting data, to analyzing them, then making decisions based on what I saw, it was a great experience to be the decision maker. I also gained skills and knowledge on IPM of strawberries with preventive strategies and constant crop monitoring. Management: During my studies I had management courses but these are only theoretical. This year was my first on site manager experience with up to 30 people (mainly speaking in other languages) to manage on a daily basis. I was always trying to find things to do depending on the state of the crop and the work priorities. Quality and Production: I was in charge of quality control and always in contact with the « cooperative » where we sold the berries. It was sometimes difficult to keep an eye on each cart of pickers, and explain how to do it to people who did not speak my language. But I made my best and the results were there. I had to take everything I had learned before and put it into practice, some days were better than others, but every problems I encountered was an opportunity to learn and gain skills. Unfortunately, the working conditions were not there and I did not share the same values as my boss. So I decided to resign for my well-being, it is a bit sad because I had dreamed of this position for a while and I tried to change things to make the production site more professional and more profitable. But at some point I became tired of this work atmosphere and started being unhappy in my life. This means that I am open to new opportunities in the strawberry industry worldwide. I want to continue in this field, because I’ve seen what I have done and I would love to work for a company that shares my values. And continue to put into practice the skills and knowledge I have acquired in my previous experiences. Do not hesitate to contact me to discuss or if you want to know more about me. #strawberry #opentowork 🍓🍓🍓
