Proud to present to the OSCE Permanent Council the Gender Annual Progress Report, with the key successes achieved in 2023, a real example of how the OSCE evolves its approaches as threats evolve.   In the year marking the 20th Anniversary of its Gender Action Plan, the OSCE continues to be an essential platform to unlock women’s full potentials, take action to end all forms of discrimination and violence, and work towards just, fair and equitable societies. In all my professional life I have been a strong supporter of women’s empowerment. That is why I am proud to share that in 2023 for the first time the OSCE achieved gender parity among its international staff! Our work focused on                                                         📍 promoting innovative approaches to translate the Women, Peace and Security Agenda into a concrete reality on the ground 📍investing in women and lead action towards women’s economic empowerment 📍redouble efforts in fighting all forms of gender-based violence and effectively protect the survivors. Supporting women affected by violence during conflict remained a top priority 📍 lead ground-breaking work at international levels, such as corruption and gender, women’s access to natural resources and role of women in organized crime 📍 invest in engaging men for gender equality with the good work of the OSCE Secretariat MenEngage group. Male allyship is key to achieving gender equality.  A big thanks to OSCE Gender Focal Points and staff, for their commitment and passion. They are the real drivers of this progress.   A special thanks to Lara Scarpitta and the Gender Team at the OSCE Secretariat and to donors for their support including to the #WinGenderEquality project. And congratulations to this year’s OSCE Gender Champions: staff who led outstanding efforts and achievements in the OSCE in promoting gender equality. As the world’s largest regional security organization, the OSCE remains a key global player in advancing gender equality and promoting women’s rights, including through partnership with international and civil soviet partners in key fora such as the WPS-HA compact. Our role is more critical today than ever.
