Corrosion Under Insulation (#cui) is an increasingly hot topic in the world of #assetintegrity. In Spring of 2022, we embarked on a trial using drone-based #thermography and visuals, in a specific workflow, to identify areas at elevated risk of CUI. The original trial on two BFW tanks showed promise after our client precisely cut windows into the cladding & insulation revealing various stages of corrosion. Since then, we have conducted this workflow on ~50 assets and have achieved a success rate of ~75% in uncovering CUI in various states of severity. Recently, one of our crews was back on site at a tank inspected in November 2022 (the recommendations excerpt attached) and confirmed another hit from the #droneinspection screening imaged yesterday. With Voliro & SixPEC making strides with their airborne #pulsededdycurrent payload, we'll soon be able to offer rapid and efficient quantitative examinations to accompany the qualitative inspections where suitable. IMSA’s dual spindle concept sees on the same headstock a gun drilling spindle and a milling spindle for other machining operations such as face milling, spot-facing, tapping, and so on. Thanks to our separate spindles: - each unit (that of deep drilling and that for the auxiliary operations) has been OPTIMIZED without compromising technically; - the switchover from gun drilling to milling and vice versa takes place in FULLY AUTOMATIC MODE, in a few seconds: just the electronical axis commutation time; - the switchover is just activated by programming the relevant M functions beforehand, without any intervention by the machinist on the headstock.
