As ketamine therapy becomes increasingly marketed as a panacea for mental health by private corporations, it becomes increasingly crucial that our civil society understands the broader consequences of commercializing these powerful medicines. When people are struggling from mental health challenges, they are most vulnerable to commercial manipulation. Such economic approaches place profits above the purpose of healing, meaning that potential benefits also come with potential harms to the healing process. We need civil literacy around the responsible stewardship of these powerful medicines. A meta-analysis of 212 studies found touch interventions like massage and kangaroo care beneficial for mental and physical health. Familiarity of touchers did not affect adults, but touch by parents greatly benefited newborns.
