This Black History Month, and always, we are reinvigorated in our efforts to ensure every classroom is led by a representative educator. Research shows that having a Black teacher, in particular, overwhelmingly impacts the educational trajectory of students. According to findings reported by the The Brookings Institution, “Black students who have one Black teacher by third grade are 7% more likely to graduate high school and 13% more likely to enroll in college. After having two Black teachers, Black students’ likelihood of enrolling in college increases by 32%.” Please join us in honoring and celebrating Black educators of yesterday, today and tomorrow, and committing to actively build a strong pipeline of Black educators in every community. Today, we celebrate and honor Reach University’s Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Kimberly Eckert, as she shares why she teaches and leads a diverse and representative faculty of educators at Reach and throughout Louisiana. https://lnkd.in/gxDSZbnC #ThereIsPowerInTeaching #BeATeacher #Equity #HigherEd #K12

We're celebrating Black History Month by sharing stories and resources from our Black educators who have shaped education and who continue to shape the world we teach in today. The roots of Black History Month begin with Carter G. Woodson, who started his career as a teacher and school principal and later became a historian, author and journalist. In 1926, he launched Negro History Week during the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. By 1976, it evolved into what we know today as Black History Month. We recognize the barriers that Black students still face in the classroom, especially relating to edtech. According to a 2023 U.S. Department of Education report, as many as 16 million K-12 students lack sufficient access to internet services or learning devices at home — a digital divide that disproportionately impacts Black Americans. Follow along with us this month as we amplify our nation's history! #BlackHistoryMonth #Education

Black History month is round the corner (October), what is your organisation doing to acknowledge the vital role Black people have played and continue to play in shaping UK society? We recognise that many organisations either start focusing on Black History Month too late or avoid, overlook, or forget to celebrate it due to a lack of awareness, competing priorities, limited resources, lack of diverse leadership, or cultural inertia. For us at AKD, we understand the significance of Black History Month in honouring the past, educating the present, and inspiring the future for all. With this in mind, we are excited to introduce our Black History edition of Equally Yours, our innovative learning experience that combines playfulness and conversation for all people. People are more active and open learners when they are having fun and that is why the Equally Yours Black History learning session is effective. We'll be sharing more about this over the coming days and weeks. If you want to find out more, leave a comment and we will reach out to you with more information. #BlackHistoryMonth #StrengthinDiversity #EqualityDiversityInclusion

October marks the beginning of Black History Month. Black History Month in the UK, celebrated every October, is a vital opportunity for children to learn about and appreciate the contributions of Black individuals to society. It aims to address the historical underrepresentation of Black history in educational settings and promote a broader understanding of its significance. Black History Month encourages children to explore the rich tapestry of Black history, moving beyond narratives limited to slavery and racism and serves as a platform for challenging stereotypes and misconceptions. By learning about the diverse experiences and contributions of Black individuals, children can develop empathy and understanding, which are crucial for fostering inclusive communities. #BlackHistoryMonth #blackhistorymonthuk
