CORPORATE POACHING! All’s fair in love, war and business? Or is it just poor business ethics? My take as we look for talent in a startup company is not to poach from other companies as in my experience those that are willing to change jobs often do so for a few more dollars only, never having been innovative and/or loyal in their former job therefore look elsewhere for their satisfaction, and theirs alone, not the company's. These are called job hoppers officially. They are not the best employees. This style of recruiting is common in the old-fashioned U.S. forest products industry manufacturers and the wholesale trade sector, still operating in the 1950s, where one company will poach another's employees and vice-versa thinking they are getting the best of the best. In reality, they are just exchanging the worst of the worst in a tit-for-tat recruitment scheme by-passing up recruits that could really make a difference for their company. The latter are the employees we look for. This game is often played by such forest products companies as Weyerhaeuser, Roseburg, Boise Cascade, Shelter Products, Shamrock, and so on looking to acquire the incoming employees' accounts and relationships, then getting rid of them which happens often in that industry. That is their only requirement and is the wrong method of increasing their customer base. Customers always see what this is and means, usually turning them away. Some in that industry also utilize non-compete contracts to prevent employees from leaving, however that abuse is coming to an end with the proposed ban on these contracts of adhesion by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission as wildly abused by the forest products industry and professions such as the medical industry. https://lnkd.in/g2MfAhqc?

Should You Accept a Counter Offer? 🤔 In the fast-paced world of recruitment, counter offers are becoming increasingly common. But are they really in your best interest? Here are some pros and cons to consider. ✅ **Pros:** - **Immediate Financial Gain:** Often, a counter offer includes a salary increase or bonus. - **Familiar Environment:** Staying in a known workplace with familiar colleagues can be comforting. - **Career Advancement:** Sometimes, a counter offer comes with a promise of a promotion or new responsibilities. ❌ **Cons:** - **Trust Issues:** Accepting a counter offer might make your employer question your loyalty. - **Temporary Fix:** The reasons you wanted to leave in the first place might still exist. - **Missed Opportunities:** You could be passing up a chance to grow and develop in a new environment. Ultimately, the decision is personal and should be based on your long-term career goals. If you're unsure, it might be worth discussing your options with a recruitment specialist. 💌 After conducting hundreds of role-specific assessments at BOLSTAR CAREER and forwarding top candidates to our clients, we have seen on multiple occasions that the companies can't hire those candidates. Why? 🎁 The benefits were attractive. Work cultures were decent. Everything is great. Then what goes wrong? ❌ The companies were not fast enough with their first offer. By the time the negotiations start, these top candidates are already snapped up by more ruthless companies with shorter negotiation cycles. 🪙 My two cents: Aggressively make the first offer to the top candidates within 24-48 hours of finishing the assessments. After finishing the assessments, every minute wasted is one additional minute your competitors get to nab your desired candidates.

Analogy of the week: Accepting a counter offer, is like getting back with your ex. Over 50% of candidates that accept a counter, end up back on the market 6 months later… 🫠 Remember why you started looking for new opportunities in the first place. 🔺 It’s more than just a raise you’re looking for. So, you've decided to accept that $10,000-$15,000 salary booster after conveying your intention to leave. Does that sit well with you? You had to dangle the prospect of leaving just to secure a raise, rather than being recognized for your performance and contributions as a valuable employee. Now yes, there are reasons you opted to stay ↳ You like the work environment ↳ You have good friends at work ↳ The commute isn’t bad ↳ You’re comfortable… But, have you considered ↳ When was the last time you had a raise? ↳ When was the last time you received a promotion? ↳ Is their structured career progression? Now, if you are comfortable with not having a promotion and progression for 2+ years then this post isn’t for you. Your curiosity to see what opportunities are out there, is a sign you’re ready for the next move in your career❗️ When you're fielding offers from potential employers and your current employer swoops in with a counter... Just remember, it’s like an ex wanting to get back together. And we know how that ends… What are your thoughts on counter offers? #Gracefulinsights #recruitmentinsights #recruitmentadvice #adviceoftheday #counteroffers #questionoftheday #salescareers #salescareers #headhunter #insights #careerdevelopment #careeradvice #rec2rec #r2r #recruitmentcareers

How to deal with counter offers from a candidate perspective 💴 Navigating counter offers is a critical aspect of the job search process that requires careful consideration and strategic decision-making. When faced with a counter offer from your current employer, it's essential to approach the situation with professionalism and clarity. 💵 💳 Firstly, assess the reasons behind your decision to explore new opportunities. Consider whether the counter offer addresses the factors that prompted your job search in the first place, such as career growth, work-life balance, or compensation. 💳 💸 Secondly, communicate openly and transparently with both your current employer and the prospective employer. Clearly articulate your priorities, concerns, and expectations to ensure that all parties are aligned. 💸 💹 Ultimately, make your decision based on your long-term career goals and personal values rather than short-term gains. Evaluate the potential for growth, advancement, and fulfillment in both options before reaching a conclusion. 💹 ⚖ By carefully weighing your options and maintaining open communication, you can navigate counter offers effectively and make the decision that best serves your professional aspirations. Recruiters, we do like to talk. I was involved in a bit of a chin wag with about 20 other recruiters last week. The topic of "what to do when you are about to close a deal with a client and you find out something disqualifying about the candidate?" The context being something like made up career info, something dishonest and definately disqualifying. As much as recruiters often get bashed for being too sales focussed, it was super pleasing that everyone was in firm agreement. If the info is verfied, be honest with the client. Dont fudge it. EVEN IF IT COSTS YOU A PLACEMENT! Worth noting, this was just recruiters chatting. No clients present to "perform" in front of. Honesty rarely fails to reward you, I reckon.

As a recruiter, I understand that counter offers can be a difficult situation to navigate. Receiving a counter offer is an exciting situation as it shows your current employer values and acknowledge your hard work and talents. When considering a counter offer, it is important to think about the reasons why you wanted to make a move in the first place. Was it to develop new skills, gain new experiences or earn more money? It is also worth considering how any changes to your role or salary will affect you in the long term, and if your current employer is able to provide this. Ultimately, it is important to make an informed decision that is right for you. 🤔🤓😊 #CareerChange #CounterOffer #Recruiting
