LPO Group Board met last evening, as we are all Licensees we are not privileged with daylight hour meetings. Thankfully, Graeme O'Brien MD is able to accommodate. Modernisation: many changes are afoot and it is clearly evident that Australia Post are not considering LPOs in their call for modernisation nor their ongoing viability. None of the recommendations will have a positive impact on an LPO viability Open Network: LPOG's Chairman Scott Etherington, and Executive Director - Angela Cramp were requested to make time for an urgent Teams meeting Monday morning with Paul Graham and Josh Bannister. It was clear that the meeting was called to reinforce Mr Grahams' response to TGE's Peter Munro, and a directive together with implied threats that LPOG must cease any communications with Australia Post's competitors. TGE, and many other Industry stakeholders, do value the network of community post offices and their reach across the nation, and in fact genuinely want them to thrive! They also expect that people living in rural and regional areas will have far greater access to competitive services, and have much better opportunities to participate in eCommerce with open access, at commercial terms to the LPO network. Mail Contractors: payments and contracts are currently under review with Australia Post and LPO Group, to determine reformed payment outcomes for LPOs that house contractors . Interestingly the other representative body have declined to participate in these negotiations. Why is this even allowed by our Franchisor? How can they be allowed to watch as their franchisees pay this association money for NOTHING! Surely Australia Post has a responsibility to ensure that any organisation purporting to represent members by having a consultative agreement with Australia Post is actually representing the members, and are doing what they are being paid to do? Banking: Licensees are being held financially accountable for errors they, or their staff, may have made. This cannot continue and there has to be a mechanism put in place whereby Licensees are not being financially disadvantaged for the sake of a $1.75 commission. #mrbatesvsthepostoffice Backpayments: For many years Licensees have been performing tasks on behalf of Australia Post and not been correctly remunerated. We have heard some whispers that back payment will be limited to 6 years, which is not legally allowed and LPOG will ensure this is not enforced. And to finish on a positive note, just prior to Mr Graham's attendance at Senate Estimates, a Licensee with many "refusals' on her desk requested LPOG assistance to claim her correct payment for accepting mail prior to opening time (Mail Service Payment). This time, this Licensee was advised that their payment will be paid, with back payment paid from 2012.

We are thrilled to welcome MGA Independent Businesses Australia to Independent Payments Forum. Together we'll advocate for a fair go in payments for independent grocery and supermarkets, independent timber and hardware, and independent liquor retailers and their customers all over Australia. They join AACS (Australian Association of Convenience Stores), Australasian Convenience and Petroleum Marketers Association (ACAPMA), Australian Restaurant & Cafe Association and the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) at the IPF forum. IPF aims to affect real change in the payments system by listening, working with, and representing the voices who go unheard, including small businesses and their customers. Currently in Australia small businesses and their customers pay a lot more than big businesses in unfair fees for basic debit card payments. Debit cards are used by the vast majority of Aussie consumers to access their own money for everyday shopping. Debit is "the new cash" and fees should be as low as possible. High streets paying over one third of all business rates Helen Dickinson, Chief Executive of the British Retail Consortium, said: “Consumers want diverse and thriving high streets, but this is held back by the broken business rates system. It is the biggest barrier to local investment and prevents the creation of new shops and jobs. “Already, the industry pays far more than its fair share – retail accounts for 5% of the economy, but pays 7.4% of all business taxes, and over 20% of all business rates. The Budget is a great opportunity to right this imbalance, ensuring that retail pays a fairer level of business rates.” https://lnkd.in/eug3k9ms #highstreet #retail #business #rates #brc
