🎉 Wallonia labelled "Regional Innovation Valley" by the European Commission 🎉. Our ecosystem has reached a significant milestone before 2030. Thanks to the exemplary commitment of the actors in the Walloon ecosystem, Wallonia has been awarded the title of REGIONAL INNOVATION VALLEY. This recognition places Wallonia among the regions identified by the European Commission as part of the New European Innovation Agenda. The businesses in our region are at the heart of this achievement. Their dynamism and innovative spirit have driven the hard work of the SPW EER, the #S3Wallonne coordination unit, Circular Wallonia , and the competitiveness clusters. Together, we have developed sustainable and cutting-edge solutions, placing Wallonia and other regions honoured with this label at the forefront of the circular economy in Europe. The European Union is supporting this initiative with €116 million under the European Innovation Ecosystems. By joining the "European Circular Economy Innovation Valley" consortium, we commit to: 1️⃣ Boosting circular solutions in industrial value chains. 2️⃣ Creating a dynamic network to connect innovation actors. 3️⃣ Encouraging the exchange of expertise and best practices. 4️⃣ Increasing the visibility of our regional circular economy and innovation strategies. 5️⃣ Stimulating regional economic growth through innovation. This is a collective victory driven by Walloon businesses. Let’s continue to innovate and make our region shine on the European stage 🚀. #Innovation

Sustainability and innovation are key to advancing in the infrastructure industry. And a clear example of this is Anton Ricafort, Innovation Director at ACCIONA, who tells us how working with young engineers and professionals brings a breath of fresh air to his daily life. According to him, 'It's a way to understand how people think when they leave university; it's giving me a new perspective.' This was a really rewarding project, inviting us to think about what a mission framework for a more diverse, equitable and inclusive research and innovation system in the UK might require. Big thanks to Rainer Kattel for letting me be part of it and to Manuel Maldonado Acosta, Virgi Sari and everyone else who was involved in shaping it (there were many). A decision we made early-on in its design was choosing to hold its status in ‘beta-mode’ or as an exemplar, and to not fully specify goals upfront, even in draft form. This was to recognise that addressing the challenge of a more equitable and inclusive system requires rethinking both the aims and the ways-of-working of the existing system, and therefore we knew the mission framework itself couldn’t be pre-engineered, it needed to be co-designed and developed via collaborative effort. This project joins a growing body of practical research that suggests the ways in which missions are designed and implemented is as important as the mission goals themselves. What does it mean to develop inclusive innovation systems? Rainer Kattel, Julie McLaren and Manuel Maldonado Acosta tested this idea through a missions lens with the support of Innovate UK for their new programme No Limits. Find the report here: https://lnkd.in/ebhd2G4y

Our Vedrova business development team was present at InnovFest 2.0, organized by six cluster organizations (VIL, Flanders' FOOD, Flux50 , Medvia, Catalisti & De Blauwe Cluster vzw) powered by VLAIO. The goal of InnovFest is to stimulate innovation within Flemish companies and organizations. 🌍🤓 One of the main topics was building a sustainable future. Jürgen Ingels' keynote left a lasting impression, urging us to embrace and nurture innovation within our company. He quoted Charles Holland Duell in 1880 that everything that can be invented, already has been invented. Therefore creativity is necessary to thrive whilst technology will move us forward in the next years and decades to come. ♻️👜 Creativity leads us to endless applications and possibilities. This was proven by the CITRIBEL case. For example, they managed to build a circular loop turning waste into fashion hand bags (and lots of other products are possible). This proves not only that Flanders is fashionable, but also that we succeed in creating circular technologies to innovate towards a green future. 🏢🤝 Finally the Sustainability Breakout Rooms focused on the pivotal role of collaboration in sustainable innovation. Geert Van Ballaer from Borealis shared a case study of six different companies with distinct backgrounds and standing uniting to create an innovative and fully recyclable packaging solution. One plus one adds up to three (and more), when we share knowledge. Yuliya Yakimova and Dave Wesseling from Vedrova even had the opportunity to meet Flemish minister Jo Brouns after the inspiring keynotes and breakout sessions. The event not only provided valuable insights but also connections that will undoubtedly shape our approach to innovation. Thanks for having us!
