It’s not just what you do that matters. Why you do it is just as important.
A high-culture organisation unites staff around a cause they can believe in, preferably a noble one. That's easy if you are Blue Dragon Children's Foundation or the World Health Org. But how do you do it for a bank or a mechanic? Or a junk food restaurant? Waffle House do. Even when a Waffle House is not currently surviving a natural disaster, staff can be proud to work for one that can. Theyknow that they may get opportunities to turn bad coffee and hot unhealthy food into comfort and support to those under duress, and be loved for it. They can even volunteer to go help one that is. Who knew waffles could be noble? Oh, and that bank? " Financing New Zealand battlers into homes”. "Lubricating a vibrant economy”. “ Protecting national prosperity”. The mechanic ? “ keeping families safe and mobile”. “keeping the classics alive”. “Stance with attitude”. Ok, that last one isnt so noble but it's sick. #culture #teal

Sadly, as I observe the food supply system and marketplace, I am finding that garden paths have increased in number and are getting longer with winding and confusing loops that continuously go around. The industry has no shortage of tour guides, trainers, coaches, consultants, regulators, industry associations, service or solution provider, audit scheme promoters, etc., many of whom are themselves confused. An overwhelming number of unsuspecting subscribers have become drawn into the entrapping vortex of confusion with illusions of having "enjoyable" and "informative" rides on roller coasters. Meanwhile, with monetary gains as the predominant measure of success, casualties of contaminated food are mounting in all regions of the world. Have you seen any signs of the recklessness in the food supply system. Worse, have you in one form or another, become engulfed in the travesty or tragedy? Surely, #Better_is_Possible Join me and these other individuals who have expressed their dissatisfaction with the #POP_Culture: Cori Muse, Ron Cook, Homero Ruiz, REHS/RS, Alex Hanley, John Duffill, Sanjay Goyal, Nina Hamid FIH, Professor Keith Warriner, Larry Keener CFS PA IFT Fellow, Francois Bourdichon, Hans-Dieter Philipowski, Ben Fisher, Lily Steel, Claudia Ruiz Reyna, YesSir NazZir What can we do? The violence of the past few days has been disturbing and intimidating often fuelled by inflammatory language from those who should know better. There are a lot of angry people in the UK and there are also far too many impoverished and dispossessed communities for a nation with so much wealth and resources. The power of food to connect, to heal and to bridge divides is well documented. It’s not the answer to what we have seen on our streets recently but it can be part of the answer. Something as simple as a shared meal may not make people agree with each other but it can stop them wanting to harm each other. Sustainable Food Places connects communities in over 100 localities across the UK by tackling food poverty, ensuring food justice, cooking, growing, supporting local food businesses and simply sharing good food together. Food can connect where economic injustice, misinformation and hopelessness is seeking to divide. See the impact Sustainable Food Places network, family and movement. Whoever you are in these cities – take a breath, take a look at this work and look to what makes us all human – the love of good food. Below are just three of many, many examples… In Hull ‘Scran! Kitchen’ at the Warren is a young people’s resource centre based in the centre of Hull. It has a strong philosophy of youth empowerment and democracy. Scran! provides training and support around cooking, growing and eating better food. https://lnkd.in/dfmr-d2z Rotherham Food Network is an inspirational example of how local communities, businesses and the Council can work together to make affordable good food a defining characteristic of that city. https://lnkd.in/debmPBUW Food Plymouth’s has its FoodSEqual project that ensures everyone in the community can eat well with summer holidays offers for families and breakfast meet-ups for all. https://lnkd.in/dc_-PCyZ https://lnkd.in/dXHCWJQh
