Happy Juneteenth! Today our country celebrates the moment when the news of emancipation reached the last enslaved African Americans. We see many wonderful individuals and companies publicly recognizing the importance of the holiday today on social media. As that happens, we believe we should all challenge ourselves by asking: How can your organization turn this one moment of public support into a movement for racial justice? A single moment of solidarity can be meaningful, but it's the continued support of allyship that makes fundamental change. For highly-resourced companies, this means executing a variety of long-term initiatives. As one example, Salesforce has multi-year commitments for racial justice across four pillars: People, Philanthropy, Purchasing, and Policy. Each year, they present an annual report that showcases their successes and challenges in these areas, providing much-needed transparency. They're here in the moment and they're doing the work. How can your organization provide long-term support for the movement for racial justice?

JUST DO IT!! (Transparency post)During the 2020 pandemic, as I managed a homeless shelter and transitioned to remote work, I found myself reflecting deeply on my role and the systemic issues affecting those in need. The realization that our current approach was a temporary fix that failed to address the root causes started to weigh heavily on me, especially considering my own background and experiences. I saw a lack of representation for the marginalized individuals I worked with daily and questioned why those who truly understood their struggles were not given a voice in decision-making processes. This led me to take action and create Black Fridays, a platform dedicated to empowering Black-owned businesses and providing a space for them to share their journeys, challenges, and triumphs. From my initial hesitance to boldly advocate for change to the development of a powerful voice and impactful platform, my transformation exemplifies the growth that can occur when we tap into our inherent abilities and passions. By leveraging social media as a tool for advocacy and empowerment, I honed my skills and built a community that supports and amplifies the voices of underrepresented entrepreneurs and communities. I also birthed “YOGI VIBEZZ” which is a wellness community that focuses on bringing wellness experiences to urban communities. This journey has taught me that meaningful change begins within oneself and that by taking the first step towards a cause you believe in, everything else will fall into place. May my experiences serve as a source of inspiration for you to recognize your own potential for impact and make a difference in the world.#siarradivine #yogivibezz #entrepreneurwomen

Allyship is a year-round effort, so let's use this Pride month as an opportunity to check in. Here are some steps to becoming a better ally in your community: 🤍 Support and Amplify: Support and highlight the achievements of underrepresented individuals. Share their work and advocate for their ideas. 🎧 Listen and Learn: Listen without judgment and be curious about other people's stories. 📢 Speak Up: Use your platform to address injustices and call out discrimination. Silence can be complicit—let your voice be a tool for change. Allyship is a continuous journey. Some actions are easier than others, but each step brings us closer to a more inclusive workplace. #Allyship #Support #Community

Family Board Meeting Chronicles In a recent family board meeting, we revisited our family values. ✝️Christ-centered and Christ-led 💰Wealth Building 🎖️Impactful Service ⚛️Unity 📝 Legacy I highlighted what Christ-centered/Christ-led and what wealth building means to us in previous posts. Today, I’m sharing our impactful service value. Impactful service emphasizes the importance of contributing positively to the well-being of others and the community. This family value encourages members to actively seek opportunities to serve and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those less fortunate, intentionally impacting the Black community. It involves acts of kindness, generosity, and a commitment to social responsibility. We are a family that believes, to whom much is given, much is required. For this reason, we invest time and resources for missions. We lend our time and talents to causes we care about. We are better for it. Today, The BOW Collective broke barriers as we met with top officials to discuss policies for Black women-owned businesses. The 200+ BOW Collective is doing $1.4 BILLION in business, and we are ensuring equity and inclusion in federal contracting and business opportunities. For the first time in history, SBA data shows deep racial disparities in government spending to Black businesses. We believe that more spending will create more jobs. Advocacy equals access, and together, we raised our voices to make a difference. #BOWatWhiteHouse #BOWBreaksBarriers #AdvocacyEqualsAccess #BlackWomenInBusiness #EquityAndInclusion #WhiteHouseVisit #Sisterhood #WomenEmpowerment #BusinessPhilanthropy

My first thought was, "Why has this never been in my purview? Why was I in the dark?" I had barely logged into the webinar when I heard one panellist share their experience of discovering the challenges in the adoption of Black children. Their voice tinged with frustration. Revisiting my notes from the Black Adoption Project webinar in February 2024, it occurred to me that I didn’t share the lessons i took away from the webinar and that prompted this post. The session explored the theory of change for the Black Adoption Project, a collaboration with Adopt London and LBTC. This initiative aims to bridge gaps and improve outcomes for Black children waiting for families. The discussions were rich with insights and a shared determination to create meaningful change. In terms of challenges and barriers, the room seemed to grow heavier with these issues; Systemic racism 🚧 Adoption delays ⏳ Trust issues 🤝 Prospective adoptive parents need confidence in the adoption process and its support systems Yet, the key areas of focus were presented not just as bullet points but as vibrant pathways toward a better future: Children: Envisioning a future where adoption is celebrated in schools, with unique stories embraced and valued. Families: Lowering barriers to adoption, building trust, and offering tangible support. Communities: Fostering warmth and unity through community support and understanding. Workforce: Equipping the workforce to support diverse families and address racism head-on. Systems: Reimagining systems to meet the needs of Black children with continuous improvement and innovation. As the webinar concluded, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to advocating for these essential changes. The voices of the panellists, filled with passion and resilience, stayed with me. Question for you: How can schools better integrate and celebrate the unique stories of adopted children?🤔 ======================== Hello! 👋 I'm Ade Larigo, I help forward-thinking adoption and fostering services improve cultural consciousness and anti-racism in their practice 🚀 Interested in how I can assist?
