A 10+ year journey to get this legislation across the finish line! The work that so many people put into this, individual organizations, and coalitions like the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and Outdoor Alliance that pushed so hard for bi-partisan, non-partisan action because overwhelmingly people in America, regardless of political party affiliation, or independent, see the value in time outside. This legislation will benefit rural and urban, veteran and non-veteran, industry and infrastructure! The model of coalition building, community, and never quit from leaders like Jessica (Wahl) Turner, Adam Cramer, Byron Harvison, Josh Jespersen and dozens, hundreds of others got this done. #community #coalition #outdoorrecreation

🙌 Today the Nature Restoration Law (NRL) enters into force in the EU! The many benefits expected from this law now depend solely on its implementation, starting with the development of National Restoration Plans in each Member state. Time to #RestoreNature

Big day today! The public demand to #RestoreNature becomes legal obligation for all EU member states. As science has proven, "biodiverse ecosystems such as wetland, freshwater, forest as well as agricultural, sparsely vegetated, marine, coastal and urban ecosystems deliver, if in good condition, a range of essential ecosystem services, and the benefits of restoring degraded ecosystems to good condition in all land and sea areas far outweigh the costs of restoration. Those services contribute to a broad range of socio-economic benefits, depending on the economic, social, cultural, regional and local characteristics" (preamble, 14). #ClimateCrisis #ClimateAction #NatureAlert #LivingPlanet

The EU Nature Restoration Law has entered into force, marking a key milestone for nature, following a hard fought campaign that mobilised more than 1 million people. This historic win has important implications for coastal and marine habitats across Europe. The new law sets a target for the EU to restore at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030 and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050. EU member states must now develop national restoration plans by 2026, including measures to restore key marine and coastal habitats like seagrass meadows, kelp forests and shellfish reefs. For WWF offices and conservation partners in Europe, this new law provides an important opportunity to advocate for ambitious action to restore ocean habitats, and complements existing efforts to expand marine protected areas, restrict harmful fishing practices and restore depleted fisheries. Here comes the second ECJ judgment (case C-436/22) in the past few weeks concerning protection of wolves under the Habitats Directive. This time the case concerns a regional law in Spain that makes wolves huntable in that region. The Court finds the regional law incompatible with the Directive and outlines the requirements concerning exceptions, including reporting and surveillance of a species in light of the precautionary principle. ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE TAKES A HIT ON DAY ONE OF TRUMP ADMINSTRATION Among the many executive orders and presidential directives issued on the first day of the second Trump was an executive order on Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing. With respect to environmental justice, it ordered that within sixty days of this order: (1) the termination to the maximum extent allowed by law, all “environmental justice” offices and positions; (ii)  providing the Director of the OMB with a list of all: “environmental justice” positions, committees, programs, services, activities, budgets, and expenditures in existence on November 4, 2024, and an assessment of whether these positions, committees, programs, services, activities, budgets, and expenditures have been misleadingly relabeled in an attempt to preserve their pre-November 4, 2024 function; and (3) identifying Federal grantees who received Federal funding to provide or advance “environmental justice” programs, services, or activities since January 20, 2021. In addition, the executive order entitled Initial Rescissions of Harmful Executive Orders and Actions Executive Order which in essence cancels all of President Biden’s executive orders (including his order canceling all of Trump’s first term orders) listed the Biden Executive Order 14096 of April 21, 2023 (Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All). What all of this actually means for EJ and related activities at the Federal level going forward is uncertain. Will EJ considerations in permitting and enforcement disappear? Will the community air monitoring projects in 37 states that received funding through the Inflation Reduction Act and the American Rescue Plan continue? Time will tell. #EJ #Environmentaljustice #TrumpEPA #Executiveorders https://lnkd.in/edpKaAJY
