🩸 Donated Blood – And Learned Something Cool! 🩸Stephanie Edra thank you for organizing this event! I had the privilege of donating blood in partnership with Stanford Blood Center at the Hyatt Centric. Not only was it an important experience, but I also learned something fascinating that I wanted to share. Turns out, my blood type is O-, and apparently, that makes me a universal donor! 🩸🔄 It’s pretty rare, though, which means it can sometimes be harder to find donors with compatible blood. So, of course, I couldn’t help but ask: Do they save O- blood for other O- people? 🤔 Her answer blew my mind: Nope! O- blood is actually used in emergency situations, especially when babies are born and their blood type isn't yet known, or in trauma cases when there's no time to check blood types. That O- blood is a lifesaver when every second counts. ⏱️ It’s incredible to know how something as simple as donating blood can make such a huge difference. In Saint Paul, MN, the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) federal grant program is helping to transform a park in one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods. With support from ORLP, the city is implementing community-driven upgrades, providing a safe and welcoming space to gather and connect. It has been a joy to contribute to the growth of the Rebuild by Design movement in the USA, especially in NY, NJ, and CT. This #RAINPROOF report helps tell the bigger picture story of water stresses. In the weeks after Superstorm Sandy struck in 2012, whole communities in the USA, NL and around the world mobilized to develop the best ideas to how and where people could rebuild or in some cases build BACK from where they had been before. Over a billion federal dollars have been dedicated to funding some of the most wholistic rebuilding projects. Add in the state- and local sources and it totals over $2B in #RBD projects in the NYC metro area now in construction. In the years following 2013, COUNTLESS "vulnerability assessments" were conducted in the USA, leading many cities (like Boston) and states to realize their greatest climate risks were NOT necessarily coastal storms. Again, Rebuild by Design has pivoted here in NYC to help us all plan for catastrophic downpours, just as #Copenhagen and #Amsterdam experienced a decade ago, and now southern Europe and Asia are seeing more and more of.
