A partnership of organisations working in the Yorkshire Dales National Park has published its annual progress report: 1️⃣ More than half of the plan’s 49 objectives, set in 2019, have been achieved or are on course to be achieved. 2️⃣ 15 objectives where progress has been slower than originally hoped, but there are promising signs for the future. However, the annual report, which will be debated at tomorrow’s National Park Authority annual meeting, also says there has been little or no progress on five nature recovery and natural environment objectives. 🗨️ "More action – and the necessary resources – will be needed to make them a reality.” Read more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eHBMH-n9

Our CEO, Martin Sampson, spoke with Global News about the importance of Recreation and Parks Month in June. In the interview, Martin highlights how recreation and parks contribute to creating vibrant, resilient, and healthy communities. He also discusses the critical role that recreation professionals play in maintaining these valuable community assets. Martin addresses some of the evolving challenges the sector faces, and emphasizes that the scope of recreation is expanding, and CPRA is actively working to adapt and meet these new demands. "As Northville Downs current location is now closed permanently, this may be the end of the harness horse racing gambling industry in Michigan. But Plymouth Township’s residents have expressed little sympathy for the industry. “A dying, harmful business is not what the community wants for the future of their township, and I hope that you’ve heard that,” Ban told the Board. “Live horse races account for less than 4% of wagers at this facility,” observed Adams, “ however it is still an industry with decades of decline and controversy. This gambling facility contravenes our master plan…Northville Downs holds accountability for thinking it was okay to force itself onto our community without assessing overall residential sentiment–frankly business 101.” What’s happened in Plymouth Township is similar to what’s happening in many other Michigan communities–communities facing Manufacturing 4.0 megasite development, in particular. In Big Rapids, both Green Charter Township’s Supervisor and Big Rapids Township’s Supervisor dug in their heels in favor of Gotion, in spite of rising community opposition to the project. Unlike Heise, however, BRT and GCT’s supervisors never acknowledged that Gotion was operating in bad faith, steamrolling over their constituents until they were recalled last November–by a landslide. Likewise, Marshall’s City Council continues to defend corporate interests, black moneyed lobbying groups, and economic developers above the will of the people. Marshall residents have continued to protest the Ford CATL EV megasite twice each week–even throughout the winter. As more developers and local boards go over the heads of local residents to strike deals for large, inappropriate projects, more residents are mobilizing against this overreach. Michigan’s local communities are realizing how critical their local governments are, and they’re getting involved. " #michiganbusiness #economicdevelopment #grassroots

It’s no secret that real estate development has long been dominated by a particular demographic, but despite undeniable talent, women and people of color remain underrepresented. The REDI program is a great first step toward building a more inclusive and equitable industry. The mentorship component of the program is invaluable. Our participants had the opportunity to learn directly from seasoned real estate professionals, gaining insight into the challenges and opportunities unique to our local community.  However, the core reason there is so little diversity in the real estate development industry can’t be ignored: access to equity and the ability to guarantee a loan. Municipalities, corporations, and banks need to come together to establish first-in catalytic funding commitments as well as pre-development funding sources.  Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple have all dedicated funds specifically to address housing. United Healthcare, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield have dedicated funds to housing. Bank of America and Wells Fargo have dedicated grant funding as well as low-interest patient funds to support minority developers.  We, here in Northwest Arkansas, need to find local partners willing to do the same.
