Here are some summer safety tips to keep in mind: Stay Hydrated 💧: Keep water bottles handy and encourage your kids to drink water regularly, especially during outdoor activities. Sun Protection 🌞: Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30, reapply every two hours, and don't forget hats and sunglasses to protect from harmful UV rays. Water Safety 🏊♂️: Always supervise children near water, whether it's a pool, lake or ocean. Enroll them in swim lessons and ensure they wear life jackets when boating. Heat Awareness ☀️: Limit outdoor playtime during peak heat hours (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.). Seek shade and take frequent breaks to prevent heat-related illnesses. What a beautiful weekend! And school's now out for many kids. Summer is all about sunshine, adventures, and making memories. But before your little explorers head out, here are some safety reminders to keep them healthy and happy: Sun Smarties: * Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! Apply SPF 30+ before they play and reapply every 2 hours, especially after swimming. * Seek shade during peak sun hours (10 am - 4 pm) and pack wide-brimmed hats for extra protection. Hydration Heroes: * Water is their superpower! Send them off with a reusable water bottle and encourage frequent sips. * Skip sugary drinks. Opt for water or diluted fruit juices to keep them hydrated. Bug Busters: * Insect repellent can help ward off pesky bites. Choose a product safe for children and follow the instructions carefully. 💡 Tips Tuesday: Moving With Kids Making a move isn't easy on anyone, but kids who've only known one home can have a tougher time with the transition. Check out our top 4 tips on making the process easier. ✔️ Get kids involved: When your children are involved in the moving process they tend to take ownership and feel excited about the move. Have your kids help with age-appropriate tasks like packing their toys, setting up a yard sale, or choosing paint colours for the new house. ✔️ Visit the new neighborhood: Take a tour of the new neighborhood. Drive around the block, show your child the route they would take to get to school and check out that awesome new park nearby! If it’s too far for a visit, show them photos of the new home and neighborhood. ✔️ Create a moving day bag: Fill a backpack with fun toys and activities to entertain your little one during moving day. This will also give them a safe place to keep their special belongings like their favourite stuffed animal. ✔️ Say Goodbye: Before your moving day, have a goodbye party with friends and neighbours. When the time is right, take time with your child to visit every room in the house they are leaving to say goodbye. Delivering summer fun for kids doesn’t need to break the bank.☀️🏕️ Camping in the backyard, organizing a neighborhood Olympics, baking together, treasure hunts, etc. all pack plenty of fun, at little to no cost. If your kids are at least 8 or so, maybe have them be in charge of arranging a day’s activities for you each week! That takes planning, and it is going to be so fun for everyone to see what they come up with. Inexpensive fun activities should be the core of your summer fun plan for the kiddos. Over on our blog this week, we had an explore of different things you can do with the kids during the school holidays and thought we'd share one of them here today. It's a quintessential forest school (and indeed, childhood) classic - den building! As an activity, den building is free, easy, keeps kids entertained for hours and can be done inside or out! If you’ve got the time and can access them, head to your local woods (for our Devon friends Haldon Forest, Mamhead Woods, Ashclyst Forest, Stover, and Hembury Woods are all great spots for this) and do some proper Forest School den building. If you want to go a step further, you can take a picnic blanket and snacks and when the den is compete, can sit in for a bite to eat – the kids will be thrilled!  However, if the weather is bad (thank you Storm Kathleen) or you’ve got to work, you can make this an indoor activity and the kids will still have a blast. Grab some blankets, chairs, tent poles, sheets…whatever you can find; then clear a space and let their imaginations go wild! The thing that we’ve observed about den building is that one the den is built, the fun isn’t over – they then tend to use that as a base for the rest of the day for their adventures and play. Not only does it make for great midnight basketball, but you're also providing a free nightlight service to all your neighbors. 🐶 The Barkathon - Pets are family, and their voices deserve to be heard too! Encourage your furry friends to join the conversation. After all, it's their vacation too. In all seriousness, while a good laugh is always welcome, especially on April Fools' Day, it's important to respect your fellow campers and nature. Being considerate, keeping noise to a minimum, cleaning up after yourself, and following the campground rules ensure a pleasant experience for everyone. Looking for nature based activities for your children during the Easter holidays? We love running our sessions, and we make sure that every day the children who attend are nurtured, valued and nourished! What does that mean though? 1.Our staff are calm, sensitive and super qualified. We have experienced facilitators who specialise in Wilderness therapy, forest school techniques, SEND, and FUN!! 2. They get to experience immersive play in nature, allll day! No one 'calling time' on play. It's child led, but with thoughtful boundaries. 3. They get lots of fresh air and exercise. We build in at least an hour of focused activity such as ball games, hula hooping, and tag. This is as well as the opportunity to run free on the site, climb trees, tree swings etc. 4. We offer a nutritionally balanced hot lunch and snacks to keep the children energised, and educate them about food too! Including visits to our on-site organic market garden! 5. We encourage respect! "Respect yourself, respect each other and respect the environment". We start and finish each day with circle time where each child has the opportunity to share, show, and chat and is encouraged to learn the respect mantra. Swimming pools are one of the biggest sources of fun and happy memories for kids, but they can also be dangerous if you aren’t careful. Make sure to follow these pool safety tips to ensure your little ones have fun while staying safe, so everyone can have peace of mind. 👀 Make sure someone’s always watching the water. Sometimes when everybody’s watching, no one’s really watching. Take turns being on official “water-watching duty” with the other parents and caregivers. 🏊♀️ Know the signs of drowning. Unlike what you see in movies, children rarely splash, flail, and yell as they’re drowning. Rather, it happens silently and quickly. Kids typically drown when they are vertical in the water with their heads tipped back, so stay aware of these signs when supervising. 📱 Put away your phone. It’s one of the biggest distractions for parents while their children are at the pool, leaving your kids susceptible to injury or drowning while you’re preoccupied.
