When it comes to Innovation, "Do we sell our souls?" 🤔 According to my friends over at TrueUp, over 200 THOUSAND friends in Tech have been impacted by layoffs this year alone. How many have been the result of advancements in AI? Regardless of how one feels on the matter, one can't deny, AI has and WILL continue to lead to more livelihoods being destroyed. Especially with crafts such as Art, Voice Acting, and arguably, even Marketing. As one of the next generation of Game Developers, let it be known: I will NEVER prioritize Profit > Souls. 👩🎨 Artists deserve to be compensated. 🗣 Voice Actors deserve to compensated. 🔥 The people BEHIND any project, regardless of impact, deserve to be compensated. (sh)it happens ... Life throws curveballs sometimes. Recently, I was affected by a round of layoffs, which prompted me to review my career path. This isn't the first time I've faced this situation. In 2014, before joining ServiceNow, I experienced a similar situation. During that time, I founded OUT in HK (the active LGBTQ+ community in Hong Kong), and I dreamed of bringing GAY GAMES 11 HONG KONG 2023 to Asia for the first time and started with preparations for the bid process to make this a reality. Additionally, I co-founded Gone Running (the community and shop for (trail) runners in Hong Kong) with John Ellis. So, I view this time as an opportunity for personal growth and making a positive impact. While looking for a new job, I want to connect with like-minded individuals who share my passion for technology, community, sports and positive impact on the world. Did you know diverse teams drive more innovation? 📌 A 2017 survey showed that 44% of companies focus on diversity in leadership to support inclusion. But here's the real story 👇👇 In 2021, only 36% of employees felt their tech leadership was truly diverse. Some companies, like Progressive, are making strides. But tech giants? Still struggling. At Meta (Facebook), only 11.7% of non-technical roles were held by Black employees in 2022. The disparity is clear. Even with racial minorities making up a significant part of the workforce, leadership roles remain elusive. So, while we've made some strides, the journey to true inclusion in tech is far from over. This is why I will NEVER lean into algorithm or platform chasing 💥 And by platform chasing, I mean, allowing fear tactics to change what I share on my socials because they are doing XYZ, like testing out these subscriptions. Don’t get me wrong, I used to, fuck did I used to! And guess what that lead me to??? Burnout, overwhelm, and content that wasn’t me, wasn’t relatable, and didn’t mean shit! I realised that I was creating for the algorithm and the platform vs creating for me, what I valued, what I believed, and what was important for me to share and say. Because no algorithm or platform can dictate what I can and can’t share 🎤 I have a voice and I intend on continuing to use it. I have a vision and I intend on continuing to build it. I know how to create content that’s me and I intend on empowering others by teaching them how to do the same. At the end of the day, we’ve all enjoyed these platforms for free for a long ass time. And meta is a business. They have to make money. Just like you and I do!!! If this subscription goes through and actually happens, it definitely tells a lot about them as a business, Cue capitalism and inequity much?! BUT… it shouldn’t stop you from doing you! In fact, I want to hear you get louder. I want to hear you shout from the rooftops what you need to say, About your brand, your business, life, genocide and ethnic cleansing currently happening, inequity, lgbtq+ issues, women’s rights, and the list goes on. March 8 or April 8. One month ago we celebrated #IWD here on LinkedIn - as we did at Playable. Fundamentally every day should be IWD, right? - striving for a more diverse and inclusive world. Playable is not your average SaaS company. Neither when it comes to gender diversity. Female role models in the tech sector is not a given. Compared to Sassiest 2023 numbers our April metrics are: 50 % female representation in management roles (Director level and above management postions) 53 % female representation across all management roles 45 % female representation in total Our strategies to get there is: Awareness in recruitment and succession plans. Foster a culture where your female colleagues want to share their perspectives internally around being female leader. And insist on flexibility to make ends meet - and understand what that means in the given life phase. To mention some. We’re not picture perfect. But we strive to change and develop and not lose sight of what's good for business.

I'm a game dev. And no one can tell me otherwise. Yesterday, I had the privilege to listen in on Amir Satvat and Aïda Figuerola's Game Industry Chat Session. However, of all the questions asked, one stood out to me the most: 💡 "Being someone who's about to graduate, do I stand a chance in the Entry Level Job market?" 🫠 As Amir Satvat pointed out, due to the influx of layoffs, there's an unprecedented amount of talent with only so many roles available. There's plenty of times where I've felt hopeless and as though games would never be possible for someone like me. In fact, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been told to 'pivot while I still can'. Ultimately, it's once again thanks to people like Amir that I've come to realize the following: 🌸 If it's where your heart truly lies, you'll find your way into games given enough time. 🕑 It's just a waiting game at this point.
