We are very excited to announce the signing of Pulp Kitchen Media to the OTG roster. Pulp Kitchen is an independently produced podcast dedicated to the love of Film & TV. Created and hosted by James Briefel and George Pundek – two podcast producers and content creators – the weekly podcast regularly ranks in the Top 10 Film & TV podcasts in the UK, and has a social media following of nearly 150k followers across Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube. The show, which features film reviews, movie news, trivia games, and celebrity impressions, is an informed yet informal celebration of cinema and aims to create a space for the audience to share and develop their interests in film. Since launching in late 2021, the podcast has grown to deliver regular viral videos on Instagram and TikTok, engaging ‘vox pop’ videos with media talent and fellow content creators, and regular press junket interviews with Hollywood A-listers. James and George also regularly attend red-carpet premieres and advanced screenings of the hottest new releases. So excited to see what we can achieve together.

The walls between mediums are crumbling. Should a YouTube series like Hot Ones be eligible for an Emmy? If your answer is "No, because it's not television," you're clinging to an antiquated way of thinking. The media industry is currently organized around mediums. This is because, historically, it was expensive and difficult to create and distribute content to a mass audience. As a result, people and organizations specialized: There are television companies and film studios and radio broadcasters and publishers. But it is no longer expensive and difficult to create and distribute content. So it no longer makes sense to organize the industry around mediums. The audience is interested in topics, not mediums. For example, I follow politics, so I consume Meet The Press every single week. But I haven't watched it on television in 15 years. I just say, "Alexa, play 'Meet the Press'" and listen to the audio. The audience does not care whether something technically qualifies as a "TV show" or a "podcast" or a "video." Show me a company that's quibbling over whether Spotify counts as "radio" or Mr. Beast counts as "television," and I'll show you a company that isn't prepared for the future. https://lnkd.in/gY5ET37m #mediaindustry

Episode 57 of The Media Beat Podcast is up, right in time to help you survive that midweek hump! No time for a deep dive this week as Maureen Kerr and Claire Tavernier wade through a pretty bulging bag of news items. First of is an update on the Netflix ad business - and it’s not all good news for the ‘Tu-Dum’ giant (yes we are referring to its now iconic opening sound). We then cover the decreasing production spend in the UK: long term trend, or blip? We weigh in, before delving into a great Enders Analysis report on the role of films in streamers’ content strategies. We finish the news round up with a quick review of the Annapurna / Remedy Entertainment Plc saga - that’s in the gaming world if you are not an Alan Wake fan, and shenanigans have been taking place. Our quick fire round of ‘podmojis’ goes perhaps slightly off track despite Oliver Turnbull’s best efforts - but we do manage to cover the Murdochs, the Bobs (that’s Iger and Chapek), OnlyFans and the Emmys, so we should get points for effort surely. And yes we do discuss whether The Bear should be in the comedy category… Find us here and do listen, share, comment and rate! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ev65e_Dd

Regarding the difference between a pilot and a first episode: - A "pilot" is the initial episode of a TV series that's produced to showcase the concept and potential of the show to networks. It helps determine if the show will be picked up for a full series. - The "first episode" follows the pilot and is part of the actual series that has been commissioned by a network. It continues the storyline established in the pilot and is the beginning of the show's regular airing. In some contexts, "pilot" and "first episode" might be used interchangeably, but technically, they have distinct meanings in the television industry. - A "pilot" is specifically the initial episode of a potential TV series made to demonstrate the concept, style, and potential audience appeal to network executives. It's like a test run to sell the idea of the show. - The "first episode" is the inaugural episode of the actual series that gets aired if the network decides to pick up the show based on the success or reception of the pilot. It continues the storyline established in the pilot and marks the start of the series for viewers. While the terms may sometimes be used interchangeably in casual conversation, within the industry, they refer to different stages of a television show's development and airing. #PilotEpisode, #InitialShowcase, #SeriesPremiere, #NetworkPitch, #StoryConcept, #EpisodeOne, #Continuation, #SeriesLaunch, #ShowDevelopment, #TelevisionProduction, #AudienceTesting, #BeginningOfSeries, #TVShowEvolution, #NetworkApproval

Shoot your next commercial with a Doorbell Cam 🚪 Less Gear, More Fame! 🌟 In this episode, the home owner has had enough 😂 Who ever thought a simple doorbell camera could be the gateway to viral fame? Check out the pure genius behind the trending TikTok series (@creatinetips) where the HOA president's outrageous complaints are not just a neighborhood nuisance but pure internet gold! Each clip captures our “HOA president” in action, ringing a doorbell and launching into absurd grievances about trivial rule violations. No answer? No problem. His monologues to an unresponsive doorbell cam have viewers rolling with laughter and coming back for more. Most first time viewers believe the interaction is real 😂 creating a flood of engagement. Why does this work? 🤔 It's all about relatability and realism. The raw, unpolished look of the doorbell cam footage makes each episode feel authentic, sparking intense reactions and discussions among viewers. People can't get enough of it—debating, laughing, and sharing their thoughts on each quirky complaint. What does this have to do with business and advertising? Audience and attention is everything @ Gary Vaynerchuk #daytradingattention I believe based on the channel name (@creatinetips) that this is an ingenious strategy to build a massive audience before launching the real mission. Just a hunch. Will it work? Maybe. I don't reccomend click-bait and swith but we all know it works. The takeaway here: Ideas, action and the proper framework will generate sucess. You already have all the film gear you need if you have a doorbell and a phone. What are you waiting for? What do you think David Jellison, Dan Warner and Brendan Kane

Creative inspiration for 2024 - post no 1: for creators, find the people who believe in you, who will back you and who will give you creative freedom. For people who want to reap huge reputational and financial benefit from what those creators produce as a result, especially do this for creators who are not always white men. 'Over the course of trying and failing to sell a very un-broadcast show to broadcasters, a new path opened up: HBO was starting to make its own scripted drama series. And because the pay cable channel didn’t have advertisers, and because it was still so new in that area (only the prison drama Oz preceded Sopranos), executives there largely let Chase do what he wanted. ....“I had the best job in Hollywood,” Chase says. “I had complete creative freedom. That’s why it was so good, if you want to say the show was good. Because they left us to our instincts.” ..... Though few who followed Chase received the total creative freedom he was given, it was nonetheless clear to the industry that if you let people make projects they were passionate about, and if you gave them a wider degree of latitude than was previously the norm(*), they might make something that the audience was passionate about, too. ..... There were other limitations to this big change. Most of the early Sopranos descendants were also about aggrieved middle-aged white men; it wouldn’t be until the mid-late 2010s when characters from very different backgrounds, and in different kinds of stories, got to regularly exist in this same creative space.'
