Laing+Simmons opens four new offices Laing+Simmons has welcomed four new offices to the family in recent weeks, including at Kings Langley, Maroubra and Ingleburn in Sydney. Laing+Simmons Head of People & Growth Jacqui Barnes says the company’s focus on working with local experts with values aligned to the brand has underpinned its growth in 2024 - and will again in 2025. This deal will see the firm upsize to approximately 77,000 sq ft across floors nine-to-twelve at 155 Bishopsgate over a 15-year lease. 155 Bishopsgate, which is co-owned by British Land and GIC, is a landmark office building forming part of the impressive Broadgate campus. Florida AmLaw firms: Growing or Shrinking their office space in 2023? In 2023, most Florida-founded AmLaw firms expanded their office footprints, although there were some exceptions. Akerman reduced its office space by almost 21% and decreased its attorney headcount by 2.7%, continuing a downsizing trend that began in 2020. Greenberg Traurig maintained its existing square footage, while Holland & Knight increased its space by only about 50,000 sq. ft., even after merging with Waller Lansden. Among the AmLaw 200 firms, the majority saw growth in their office space. GrayRobinson was an exception, reducing its footprint by 4%. In contrast, Carlton Fields expanded by 2.6%, and Cole Scott & Kissane grew by 5%. The overall trend in the AmLaw 200 firms indicates that despite a few firms downsizing to support more hybrid work models, most are either maintaining their current office sizes or expanding. In office-space news, Goodwin Proctor and Fox Rothschild have both moved into new locations in Philadelphia over the course of the past month, while Polsinelli just announced it is signing a new lease in the city. Jones Walker’s new Atlanta office leader says the firm is looking to grow and expand its services after 16 years in the Southeast’s largest metro area and sees some “natural marriages” with existing practice areas that could add new services in the city. But the New Orleans-founded firm also wants to grow in a way that continues to maintain the office’s “collegial” culture, said new office leader William Underwood.
