I am happy to notice, that our article dealing with enabling elements of citizen participation in local government organisations has attracted interest among fellow academics (at least from the viewpoint of downloads ). The article is published in International Journal of Public Sector Management with co-authors Anna-Aurora Kork, Anni Jäntti and Henna Paananen. It is titled as "Citizen participation as an organisational challenge in local government" and it is open access: https://lnkd.in/gtW2aKF2

🌍 The latest OECD - OCDE Trust Survey reports that 44% of respondents now exhibit low or no trust in their national governments, surpassing those with high or moderately high trust. This trend reflects a complex landscape shaped by economic shocks, geopolitical tensions and rapid technological advancements. On a welcome note, a majority express satisfaction with day-to-day interactions with public services, highlighting confidence in national health 🏥, education 📚 and public administration 🏛️. However, confidence wanes when it comes to overarching policy decisions, such as climate action 🌱 and technology regulation 📲, where less than half of respondents believe in government effectiveness. 38% of respondents think the government is unlikely to use the best available evidence in decision-making, and 40% of respondents believe the government is unlikely to explain how policy reform will affect them. Citizens increasingly seek a meaningful voice in policymaking, advocating for fairness, evidence-based decisions, and accountability. Enhancing citizen engagement 🤝, bolstering information integrity 🔍 and ensuring transparent policymaking 🌐 are crucial steps in navigating the challenges ahead. #OECD #TrustInGovernment #ReinforcingDemocracy #PublicAdministration
Pleased to launch the 2024 #OECDTrustSurvey with Elsa Pilichowski today. As part of the OECD Reinforcing Democracy Initiative, the Trust Survey, aims to help governments identify the challenges and trends in relation to trust in government while providing concrete evidence-based recommendations and examples of good international practices that help to strengthen trust in publicinstitutions and strengthen democracy The results of this latest edition of our Trust Survey shows citizens’ want a greater voice in decision making – to ensure it is fair, evidence-based, accountable, and clearly communicated. Ensuring citizen engagement is meaningful and inclusive, supporting open information and transparent communications, fostering information integrity and transparency standards in policymaking processes, and reliable and fair public services, will help enhance the democratic process, and ultimately, strengthen trust in government. ➡️ https://oe.cd/5D0

SHARING IS CARING: Lack of trust, lack of critical thinking and misinformation mongering can have very detrimental impacts in domains like #health and #healthcare. When people do not apply science-based measures to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases, we are all impacted. It is essential we all redouble our communication and outreach activities, so that we increase science #literacy, health literacy and critical thinking. We need to empower citizens to make better informed decisions 💪🏽🌍🌏🌎 #education

On 6 February the Commission registered a new European citizens’ initiative. This officially kicks off a participatory process in which all EU citizens can take part. What happens next? ➡️ the organisers have 6 months to start collecting support from other EU citizens ➡️ once the signature collection opens, their goal is to reach 1 million signatures within 1 year If the initiative reaches this threshold, the Commission will examine the proposals and meet with the groups of organisers, before deciding whether or not to take action.
