Eidesvik, Agalas join forces for methanol-powered subsea vessel Eidesvik Offshore and Norwegian shipowner Agalas have jointly ordered a new construction support vessel (CSV) for subsea and offshore wind operations. The vessel, named Eidesvik Agalas, will run with methanol engines and a battery hybrid system and will be majority owned (50.1%) by Eidesvik. Plus, the joint venture has options for a further four vessels. Alongside the battery hybrid system, dual-fuel generating sets will be capable of operating on either methanol or MGO. The vessel will be built at the Sefine Shipyard in Turkey with delivery in early 2026. It will be able to perform IMR work and will go straight to a three- to five-year charter with Reach Subsea, with Eidesvik providing full management of the vessel, including crewing. According to the co-venturers, demand for vessels in the subsea sector is about to outstrip supply, with continued growth in offshore wind this decade. The new vessel will be 99.9 m long with a breadth of 21 m and capable of accommodating 100 people. Shipbuilding launched its WINDEA Enterprise vessel, making it the 10th new-build CTV launch for the industry (and the fifth this year). U.S. shipbuilders are abuzz with activity constructing new vessels and retrofitting old ones to serve near-term projects as the offshore wind industry moves into full scale operation. CTVs are the workhorses of the industry and St. John's Shipbuilding is a prime example of the jobs and economic development offshore wind energy is bringing to communities across the U.S.! Intercon is proud to announce our recent contract award of two shipsets of Model 50C ATB Couplers from Bollinger Shipyards. The ATBs, operated by Edison Chouest Offshore, will provide feedering of wind turbine components to Maersk Supply Service's innovative new WTIV. Initially deployed to support the construction of Equinor's Empire Wind 1 project, this combination of vessels, utilizing both mature and new technologies, will address many of the obstacles facing fixed wind deployment throughout the world: - The WTIV remains permanently on station throughout the installation phase and leverages Feedering ATBs to supply wind turbine components - Ports only need to be able to support the Feedering ATBs, not the entire WTIV, greatly increasing the number of potential marshalling ports available for use - Feedering ATBs do not face the same weather or speed restrictions as towed-barge feedering solutions - The WTIV leverages a unique barge locking system that works in conjunction with the ATBs lightering capability to allow safe cargo transfer without the need for complex vessel motion compensation platforms #FeederingistheFuture #ATB #Intercon

If you want to see a path towards building new OSVs perhaps look to Brazil where they are taking positive measurable steps to jumpstart their offshore shipbuilding business and build the next generation of OSVs incorporating lower emission technologies and fuels. How long until the US, EU, UK, and Asia take similar measures to help support the construction of newbuild OSVs to replace their ever aging fleets of OSVs which are currently relied upon to deliver both their offshore Oil & Gas and some offshore renewables operations? As the global OSV fleet ages are those Energy Producer Charterers perhaps opening themselves upon to new risks and liabilities associated with these older vessels? Please keep in mind that many of vessels in the global OSV fleet are now at or approaching 20 +- years of age with end of life issues abounding and limited ability to have their emissions reduced barring complete rebuilding/ refurbishment (perhaps an option in some select cases) What support will it take to get other countries to jumpstart their OSV shipbuilding programs?

Companies like Foss are making big moves in the wind industry on the upper East Coast. The infrastructure for vessels that support this industry is getting a much-needed overhaul, making it safer and more efficient for companies like Foss to do their job.
