On this Indigenous Peoples' Day, we honor the enduring strength and resilience of Native peoples, who have shaped this land through rich traditions, innovation, and community-building for thousands of years. Native entrepreneurship is deeply rooted in these traditions, from ancient trade routes to the diverse, thriving businesses we see today in tribal nations across the country. Despite facing centuries of adversity—displacement, systemic discrimination, and barriers to capital—Native entrepreneurs have persevered. Their resilience has led to a resurgence of Native-owned businesses that are not only creating jobs but also restoring economic sovereignty to our communities. These businesses represent more than just financial success—they are expressions of cultural preservation, innovation, and self-reliance. At Oweesta Corporation, we are proud to support this movement. As the longest-standing Native CDFI intermediary, Oweesta partners with Native Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) across the country to provide Native entrepreneurs with the resources they need—access to capital, financial training, and support. By strengthening Native economies, we are paving the way for future generations to thrive. Today, we celebrate the triumphs and successes of Native entrepreneurs, whose work continues to uplift our communities and honor the legacy of our ancestors. Together, we are building a future grounded in economic independence and cultural pride.

Today, Oweesta honors and remembers the Native children who were taken from their families and communities, never to return, during the painful era of residential and boarding schools. These schools were not just institutions; they were instruments of cultural erasure, stealing from us not only our children but also the future we might have had together—one where our traditions, languages, and family bonds thrived across generations. As we reflect on this painful history, we also look forward with resolve. We will not forget. We will honor the lives of the children who were taken from us by creating a future where our children prosper, rooted in the strength of our cultural heritage. Our children are sacred, and their future is a promise of resilience and renewal. On this National Day of Remembrance, Oweesta stands with survivors, their families, and the spirits of those lost. We commit ourselves to healing, justice, and to ensuring that our children grow up surrounded by their families, their cultures, and the love of their communities—unbroken and thriving.

We are proud to announce that Oweesta Corporation has been awarded a Financial Assistance (FA) grant through the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund! This funding will allow us to continue expanding opportunities for Native communities, fostering economic growth, and supporting financial sovereignty. A huge congratulations to all 357 awardees, including the 25 Native CDFIs who received NACA Program awards! We’re inspired by the collective work of these organizations in supporting low-income and underserved communities nationwide. Together, we are creating real, lasting impact.
