Business Improvement practitioner: Make it Simple, Keep it Practical, Engage Everyone. AME QLD President
Going to the Gemba is like mountain climbing In a recent Lean Training session, I took a team through the importance of “going to the gemba” and seeing for yourself, rather than assuming. One of the team, who does a lot of mountain climbing, shared his experience. He said “when you’re in the valley, all the mountains look close together. You can assume that the distance is small, so it’s easy to walk from one peak to another in a day. But it’s not until you reach the top of the first peak, do you realise, your assumption was wrong”. He continued by saying “the perspective you gain from going & seeing and not making assumptions is incredible”. This led the group to a deep but valuable conversation around the importance of going to the gemba. Without going & seeing, your assumptions can be costly, risky and can lead you astray. How are you going to the Gemba to avoid costly assumptions?

Sharpening the tools in the toolbox since I have the time. One course a day is my goal. I was introduced to the Kaizen culture through training @DHLeC. The culture has always stuck with me personally but I needed a refresher since recent professional experiences did not practice it. This was a great course to get back into the continuous improvement game! Just finished the course “Culture of Kaizen” by Gemba Academy! Check it out: https://lnkd.in/geandcdZ #kaizen.

✨ Excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at our recent Lean Introduction training, where the Aviator Airport Alliance AB Norway management team dove into two days of dynamic learning and collaboration. 🛠️ The training covered essential Lean tools and techniques such as Gemba walks, 5S, Asaichi meetings, and the A3 problem-solving methodology. These tools are key to driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency, but as always, the challenge lies in their practical application. 💡What makes this experience particularly unique is the challenge of training such a highly skilled and experienced group of managers. It's never easy when you're working with professionals who bring such deep industry expertise to the table. But that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding. 🙏 A big thank you to our Norway team—the discussions we had, the exchange of diverse perspectives, and the high level of collaboration all contributed to an incredibly dynamic learning environment. 🔑 Lean isn’t just about knowing the tools – it’s about adopting a mindset of continuous improvement. As one speaker from a recent training I attended said: "You know what needs to be done, you know how to do it, so the only question left is – do you want to do it?" It’s about taking that crucial step and committing to making continuous improvement part of our daily work. 🙌 And a big thanks to Romanas Olijnik, who has been a great support in guiding us through Lean training and helping us apply it in practice. Also, thank you to Peter Stackeryd for inviting us to conduct this training! #LeanTraining #ContinuousImprovement #Leadership #Teamwork
