Last week I gave a talk to some of the creative sixth form students of Southend High School for Boys and I had a few tips for them. 💡Surround yourself with inspiration. Whether that’s music, film, exhibitions or people. Always have a pool of inspo to dip into. Keep learning and fill your cup. 🧠 Focus on ideas. As a creative, it’s the ideas that add value. Developing ideas to solve problems is a far greater skill than learning Photoshop. 🔍 Always do your research. Greater understanding brings greater results. 🤝 Collaborate with people. Working with photographers, illustrators, copywriters, engineers and other professionals will bring a different perspective that nearly always adds value. ⏳ Understand your own worth and how you value your time. 😈 Beware of ego, yours and the client’s. Stay objective and be empathetic. 📄 Make sure the brief is up to scratch. A poor brief produces a poor result. I love spending time with creative young minds and experiencing some of the next generation's view of the world. Their work was truly exciting and credit to the school for giving the creative subjects the facilities to produce and nurture young talent. The creative industries are a huge contributor to the national economy and yet the Arts are being marginalised by governments and many educators. Surely it's our responsibility as a society to create room for young minds to grow and flourish. Feed their imagination, don't stifle it. #education #thenextgeneration #inspiration
Great advice!

3moExcellent advice for young creatives! It’s easy to let some of that slip as they go through life so I’m sure you will have inspired them to hold onto those thoughts and remember them for the future…being a creative (life so many things in life) needs nurturing and is not static!
