How was being an engineer on Windows Core Audio just like being a Supply Chain Manager? Years ago, I worked on the Windows Core Audio Team, responsible for those tiny but mighty details: the audio drivers, pipelines, and the Sound Control you use to tweak input/output settings or adjust your volume. I wasn’t a supply chain manager—but I get it. Both jobs live in a world where success is invisible. No news is good news, and the only time the spotlight shines is when things go wrong. Ever had your headphones suddenly not connect? Yeah, that was our “supply chain disruption.” The main difference? We had years to deliver our "product"—a new version of Windows—whereas supply chain managers deliver every single day. You’re constantly managing vendor delays, keeping customers happy, and juggling last-minute changes—all while balancing costs and maintaining reliability. I have a lot of respect for the work supply chain teams do behind the scenes. The stress and complexity of keeping the world moving falls squarely on your shoulders. Yet, where are the tools to lighten that load? What’s the hardest part of keeping your supply chain running smoothly? I'd love to hear from the real MVPs out there.
