In India, higher education is often seen as the fastest route to improve the economic status of the family. It is true for students who secure admission to elite institutions like #IITs and #AIIMS. But what of the vast majority who do not? For instance, the 23 IITs collectively admit about 16,000 undergraduates, and the 20 AIIMS take in roughly 2,000 MBBS students, which underscores the problem of scale. A single large U.S. university might enroll as many undergraduates as all the IITs combined. Are our #HigherEducationInstitutes (HEIs) meeting the aspirations of students? With 35% of suicides in India occurring in the 15-24 age bracket, and over 750,000 students leaving India for overseas education in 2022, the question looms large about catering quality education to the masses. Yet, the educational landscape is changing, with noticeable improvements in HEI quality. Collaborations are underway such as #Samsung Research International's partnership with the Vellore Institute of Technology to develop AI language capabilities in Hindi, its collaboration with IIT Kanpur on GenAI, and Samsung Semiconductor's joint effort with IISc to establish a quantum technologies lab. Global Capability Centers #GCC are engaging with HEIs for joint research initiatives. #IISc stands out for its outstanding research and innovation. #IITMadras is leading the nation building process with their affordable online programs. #JNU is celebrated for its robust social sciences, international relations, and political science departments. #MAHE Manipal is known for its diverse international student population. Banaras Hindu University, located along the Ganges, provides a broad range of courses. Delhi University is coveted for its dynamic campus life. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham offers a variety of programs across several states. Jadavpur University offers great facilities at an affordable cost. Vellore is the only university based on a fully flexible credit system where students can choose courses, faculties, class locations and timings. All this data has been captured in the NIRF portal and gives a greater clarity to parents and students while choosing a higher education institute. Imagine the colossal effort required to process data for 14 million students entitled to quality higher education. The absence of Indian institutions in top global rankings underscores the need for internal competition to drive standards. #NIRF provides a platform for this competition. #NEP2020 has brought about substantial changes, including the provision of multiple entry and exit options. It requires that #HEI provide a variety of major and minor options to students, instead of confining them to a single discipline. It is like exciting times ahead for students to explore Indian higher education institutions. Looking forward, #Careercounselling should be a standard feature in all schools, not just those in major cities. https://lnkd.in/gEf_DKxB

🌟 Celebrating National Education Day 🌟 Today, on National Education Day, we honor the transformative power of education and its pivotal role in shaping individuals, communities, and nations. This day reminds us of the vision of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Minister of Education, who strongly believed that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” As we reflect on the significance of education, let’s recognize its far-reaching impact: Empowerment: Education empowers individuals with knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed. Opportunity: It breaks down barriers and creates opportunities for all, regardless of background or circumstances. Innovation: A strong educational foundation fosters creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving – essential skills in today’s ever-evolving world. In our professional lives, let’s continue to invest in learning, share knowledge, and promote continuous growth—not just for ourselves but for those around us. Whether it's through formal education, mentorship, or collaborative learning, each of us plays a role in nurturing a future that is brighter, smarter, and more inclusive. Here's to the power of education and the limitless potential it unlocks. 🚀💡 #NationalEducationDay #EducationForAll #EmpowermentThroughEducation #LifelongLearning #MaulanaAbulKalamAzad #LearningMatters #NationalEducationDay #EducationForAll #EmpowermentThroughEducation #LearningMatters #LifelongLearning #KnowledgeIsPower #EducationIsTheKey #EdTech #InspirationThroughEducation #FutureOfEducation #MaulanaAbulKalamAzad #AccessToEducation #BuildingFutures #InclusiveEducation #EducationForChange #BrighterFutureThroughEducation #LearningAndGrowth #TransformingLivesThroughEducation

I'm always excited by initiatives that focus on improving student learning and development. That's why I'm particularly interested in #PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), an independent unit set up by the NCERT. PARAKH's mission resonates deeply with me. The current education system often emphasises rote learning and standardised tests, but PARAKH aims to move beyond that by focusing on a more holistic approach to assessment. This includes not just measuring academic knowledge, but also essential skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. One aspect of PARAKH's work that excites me is its focus on capacity development in competency-based assessment. Equipping teachers with the tools and strategies to effectively assess these 21st-century skills is crucial. It helps them provide students with rich learning experiences that go beyond textbooks. Ensuring a level playing field across different boards is essential for creating a fair and equitable education system. PARAKH's work in this area, through workshops and data analysis, can pave the way for a more standardised and consistent approach to assessment across India. PARAKH's work represents a significant step in transforming India's education system. By focusing on holistic assessment and capacity development, it aims to create a learning environment that fosters both academic excellence and well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges. I know implementation can be challenging, but PARAKH's approach has the potential to revolutionise how students are evaluated and developed, moving beyond traditional metrics to nurture a more comprehensive set of skills and competencies. This shift could prove instrumental in equipping India's youth with the diverse abilities needed to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape. Of course, there's always room for improvement. As an education leader, I'm eager to see how PARAKH's work evolves and how it can be implemented effectively at the school level. But the potential is undeniable, and I'm optimistic about the impact it can have on our students. #Education #NEP #PARAKH #Assessments
