Please support this restorative strategy to harm prevention. Start the new year off with a solution. Below are rne 9 Principles of Firearm Harm Reduction 1. Build on the lived experiences, leadership, and imagination of those who are in the trenches, at extreme risk of lethal violence. 2. Respond to Black and Brown communities’ trauma around guns with the same empathy that is usually reserved for white people who use opioids. 3. Carrying a gun for protection is a reasonable response to the system’s refusal to keep us safe 4. Among young people who grow up constantly exposed to community and police violence, illicit firearm use and illicit opioid use coexist and interact. 5. In neighborhoods where everybody got guns, both the War on Guns and abstinence-based responses are failing to improve community safety. 6. Essential to the work of preventing the premature deaths of young Black and Brown people is reducing their exposure to the police. 7. We lay claim to educational tools and strategies for healing, safety, and collective care that are relevant and responsive to our survival needs. 8. We mobilize neighborhood-based responses to gun-related harms by making places where firearm use is not demonized. 9. We de-police and de-professionalize community safety and wellness. #restorativejustice #restorativepractices #harmreduction

https://lnkd.in/gHTsewhG A Job very well done with a brilliant result from a joint operation by the North East and Cumbrian constabularies. Over 90 vulnerable children and young people rescued, drugs and proceeds of crime seized and arrests made. This illustrates that human trafficking, such as county lines exploits and entraps children in the UK. This crime is happening on our door steps and is more common than we all think. Also, this Operation demonstrates how effective collaboration between policing agencies can be in tackling organised crime, especially across county boundaries which are abused by criminals. Over 380,000 child victims of crime have turned to Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) looking for support and resources to face impossible and unfortunate situations. Now, they are turning to us to save the CACs as they face down an old threat: the VOCA funds, the lifeline for these CACs to reach these children, are dwindling. Rep. Ann Wagner and her colleagues, Reps. Moran, Dingell, Bice and Costa have introduced the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFSA) to keep agency doors open to crime victims who deserve our assistance. This temporary infusion of resources will help stabilize the Crime Victims Fund, while retaining the Fund’s original intent of being financed by legal fines and fees, not Americans’ tax dollars. Now’s the chance to loudly support a quietly vital element of our communities.
