School is about to begin, and here's a gentle reminder for all parents out there. Take 5 minutes to sit with your child and have a conversation about kindness. Teach them that making fun of someone's differences is never okay. Emphasize that there's beauty in diversity and that everyone deserves respect, regardless of their appearance or background. Explain to your child the importance of inclusivity and compassion. Help them understand that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to feel accepted and valued. I often get asked what I look for and what questions I ask when doing school tours for my autistic son. For anyone that doesn’t know…. My son’s learning adventures started at the ASELCC at Latrobe Uni, then our William Ready individualised learning program, then a local kindergarten, then onto an autism specific school, to now a mainstream primary school. Currently in grade 5, we are now looking at high schools! So much to think about! As overwhelming as it is, I wanted to help reduce the stress when knowing what to look for, so I’ve created a resource for you. ♥️ A template to have with you in the one spot. Questions you need to ask yourself before having kids. According to a book I read by Jiddu Krishnamurti - Education and the Significance of Life. He wrote: “Do parents ever ask themselves why they have children? Do they have children to perpetuate their name, to carry on their property? Do they want children merely for the sake of their own delight, to satisfy their own emotional needs? If so, then the children become a mere projection of the desires and fears of their parents.” If many people asked these questions before having kids then we would have more intentional and present parents. Too often parents see their child as a project, trophy, validation, or legacy. The focus could be on supporting the child as a whole person and improving society as a whole. Parents can feel grateful just to be part of their child's life. Their role should be to create a positive environment that helps the child grow and learn. Not to relive their dreams through them. #parenting #education

Towards the end of this month, we will be celebrating children all over the world. As a result, I will be sharing some life lessons that children can teach us. We all start out life with these qualities but we end up outgrowing them as adults. While it is not good to be childish, being childlike is great. One of the first things to note about children is their ability to trust. As adults, we have developed the habit of mistrusting people before getting to know them. This also means that we naturally treat people differently when they appear to be from a different camp. Let's learn from children and treat people as good people until they prove themselves otherwise. The law has the principle of presumption of innocence but we have made it presumption of guilt until innocence is proven. This is usually apparent the way we treat rumours we hear about people. We assume the worst about people whether the rumours are true or not. Children do not do this. This month, let's learn from children and believe the best of people.
