To this day, the following quote is still one of my favourite quotes as an educator and a mother. It is the epitome of our values, vision and mission here at BTR Performing Arts Academy 🥰 A child is like a butterfly in the wind. Some can fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can. Why compare one against the other? Each one is different, each one is special, each one is beautiful. #btrperformingartsacademy#btr#kindermusik#mondaymotivation#believe#transform#rise

A Little Theatre can make a big impact.
A Little impact from last season. These numbers do not adequately tell the story of the student who was so shy she couldn't go on stage her first performance and now walks confidently into a room, who's parents cannot believe how confident and strong she has become. It does not show you the laughter and tears on an audience member's face. It only glimpses at the impact LTWS has made on the experience of theatre teachers and their students in the school system.

From the front entrance, to across the theatre, and around the corner to the high school, forty-eight flags adorn the walls of our school. Together, they are a sight to see, a representation of who we are and where we’re from. And while these flags are something you see every day, you may not know why they’re there or how they’re chosen. 1 – Every flag represents a Meadowridge family and where they’re from, including current and alumni families. 2—Flags are hung in alphabetical order, currently from Argentina to Vietnam. 3—Meadowridge hangs four flags that are not geographical, these include: the Pride Flag, the United Nations Flag, the Survivors’ Flag, and the IB Flag.

Lately, I've been reflecting and journaling, trying to envision what a center for theatre education from a faith-based perspective could truly look like. Not that I am planning on going back to full-time teaching, but as a theatre educator, I have an interest in how best to train the next generation of theatre makers and I have a special interest in those that want to approach theatre from a faith-based perspective. Imagine not just your typical theatre training program, but rather an innovative institute housed within a faith-based university. A place where emerging artistic entrepreneurs are nurtured to become not just performers, but visionary theatre makers and arts leaders. Picture Christian entrepreneurs who live out their faith missionally in the American theatre, using their talents to make a positive impact on culture. They're not just seeking jobs that may not even exist, but rather they're empowered to create their own work, initiatives, and companies. A program of creatives who embody love, excellence, and the power to unite through art.

Improv training provides a focus on listening, agreeing and adding on (the 'yes, and...' of it all), and finding ways to collaborate, that can result in improving communication, boosting morale, creating balance, and leading to creative ways to solve problems.
Piven Theatre Workshop instructors, Rebecca McNamara and Mikalina Rabinsky, had a wonderful experience creating and leading a corporate workshop with the members of The Network, to kick off their day-long retreat in late January. One participant had this to say: “I am not a performer by nature, and the very thought of participating in "improv" in front of my coworkers filled me with horror. But to my great surprise, the session with Piven Theatre was nothing like I thought improv was, and it was much more fun than I could have imagined. The teachers made each exercise challenging but created a playful environment where we all felt comfortable and supported. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity, and what I will remember most is how much we all truly enjoyed interacting with each other and as a group in such a creative and carefree way.” The Network is a group of 40+ member organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by gender-based violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and connecting community members with direct service providers. They lead collaborative work to imagine and realize radical ways to respond to and end gender-based violence, focusing on the intersections between systemic violence and gender-based violence.
