On August 8, 2024, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. demonstrated a series of slab-on-ground low-embodied carbon concrete placements for The Open Compute Project (OCP), the nonprofit organization bringing hyperscale innovations to the data center industry, which represents Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, Meta, and Microsoft. It was exciting to work with WJE and Concrete Strategies LLC. on this project as we developed the low-embodied carbon concrete mixes in our lab, targeting a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to greater than 50% per cubic yard. The test results from this pour will be used to better understand areas of risk, possible mitigation strategies, and ways to further optimize the mixtures to deliver low-embodied carbon concrete that works for the needs of data centers. Participating in test pours and getting low-carbon concrete on the ground is pivotal at this time as we move towards a low-carbon future. "This groundbreaking demonstration of low-embodied carbon concrete shows the enormous potential in rethinking traditional construction practices and embracing innovative solutions that prioritize environmental stewardship." -Shen Jackson, Director of Strategy and Incubation, Google Data Centers For more details on this project, visit: https://lnkd.in/g8jnEF7T To learn more about our sustainable building solutions, visit: ozinga.com/sustainability

I’m excited to learn about this project. If I have a new concrete solution for consideration, who’s the best person to reach out to?
