Running a small HR team with a large employee count is no easy feat. That was the theme of my week last week - do less with more from the HR pros I was engaged with.
They are constantly juggling critical tasks with limited resources, trying to keep everything running smoothly. Here are some of the top challenges I found they face, backed by recent HR studies:
1. Recruitment: Finding the right candidates is tough. The SHRM Talent Acquisition Benchmarking Report says it takes an average of 42 days to fill a position. With your small team, this process can take even longer as we juggle recruiting with our other duties.
2. Employee Relations: Keeping everyone happy and managing conflicts is a full-time job. According to Gallup, only 30% of employees feel engaged at work, which can lead to more conflicts and challenges in keeping a positive environment.
3. Compliance: Keeping up with constantly changing labor laws is overwhelming. The XpertHR 2021 Survey found that 78% of HR pros are worried about staying updated with employment laws. For your small team, this takes a lot of time and effort.
4. Training and Development: Getting the budget for employee training is another big challenge. The Training Industry Report says companies spent an average of $1,286 per learner in 2020. With limited budget, it’s tough to provide comprehensive training programs. That was four years ago! The cost has only increases.
This is where the right HR technology can make a huge difference. While also looking at the up and coming “fractional HR consulting” industry.
