P2S, a Legence Company, applauds the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s release of a standardized, verifiable basis for defining a zero emissions building. The National Definition of a Zero Emissions Building: Part 1 Operating Emissions is a comprehensive guideline to provide a broadly accepted minimum standard for what constitutes a zero emissions building. By setting clear and measurable criteria, this definition offers a harmonized approach guiding public and private entities in transitioning the building sector towards zero greenhouse gas emissions. With our Chief Engineer, Kent Peterson co-chairing the Federal Building Decarbonization Task Group and ASHRAE Task Force for Building Decarbonization, we’re ready to hit the ground running toward a zero-emission future. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has delivered on Congress's mandate to cut emissions from new or newly renovated federal buildings. The Clean Energy for New Federal Buildings and Major Renovations of Federal Buildings Rule will help reduce pollution, improve air quality, create good-paying jobs, and lead to cost savings by requiring more energy-efficient equipment in federal facilities. Meeting the requirements of this rule is a key step toward achieving President Biden's Federal Sustainability Plan goal of net zero emissions from all federal buildings by 2045. This groundbreaking rule will drive investment and adoption of cleaner, more efficient building technologies nationwide by leveraging the government's massive portfolio of buildings and purchasing power. We applaud this latest step to decarbonize federal buildings and hope to see continued legislation to make all buildings nationwide net zero. https://lnkd.in/ed2pTBG4

Top stories today (£) ⚡ Stark backtracks on feasibility of 2030 target https://buff.ly/3TzE8x0 The government’s target to decarbonise the electricity system by 2030 is at the “the fringes” of what is possible, Chris Stark has admitted. It represents a backtracking from the head of Mission Control for Clean Power 2030, who previously stated that the target was not feasible in his previous role as chief executive of the Climate Change Committee. However, Stark stressed that the 2030 target will not be delivered without further policy reforms. 💷 Water woes put spotlight on energy networks’ finances https://buff.ly/3XMZPMG Ofgem has proposed a review of the ring-fencing arrangements for energy networks to prevent the emergence of problems that have been seen in the retail and water sectors in recent years. The regulator said changes in the ownership and corporate structure of energy networks have reduced the level of scrutiny they face and left them more susceptible to financial engineering. 💧 Supply chain bemoans water companies’ lack of innovation https://buff.ly/3XzLfGP Water companies need to better engage with suppliers, contractors and consultants to embed a culture of innovation after a sector-wide survey of supply chain partners showed a low willingness to adopt innovation. The survey rated each UK water and wastewater company on 12 categories including professionalism, contractual approach and communication.

ICYMI: "The buildings sector accounts for one-fifth of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In 2022, buildings were responsible for 34% of global energy demand and 37% of energy and process-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions." SO...Facility management teams are critical to decarbonization! This is a big reason why I've come to Clockworks Analytics where I can help energy, sustainability and facilities leaders overcome the challenges of simultaneously addressing staffing shortages, deferred maintenance backlogs, financial constraints and decarbonization opportunities (to name a few): https://lnkd.in/gNFWw-B4 and https://lnkd.in/gm4BjHH7.

🏛 EXCITING NEWS FROM THE WHITE HOUSE 🇺🇸 Yesterday, the Biden-Harris administration released a fact-sheet, announcing new actions to strengthen America's electric grid. 💡 One of the main ambitions stated in the document is to upgrade 100,000 miles of U.S. transmission lines over the next five years. In connection to this the statement is specifically mentioning Dynamic Line Ratings as a key solution to reach the goal, describing it in the following manner: 💬 "As a complement to building new lines, deploying solutions like these offer fast and cost-effective ways to unlock hundreds of gigawatts of additional clean energy, increase system reliability and resilience, reduce grid congestion, and cut energy costs" 📑 Needless to say, we are very excited by this development!
