#Graz is hot ... could refer to the exceptionally warm weather in Austria´s second largest city, but in this case, it is more the conclusion of my professional resume after returning from Australia and taking over the management of the ICS Internationalisierungscenter Steiermark in Styria´s capital one year ago. #Business, #research and #development institutes, #academia and Styrian politics pull together in a way that I have not actually come across anywhere else during my international career of almost thirty years. Just imagine, the region is number 3 (!!) in Europe for R&D per GDP spending. With nine universities, state-of-art research organisations and internationally leading companies in the areas of #mobility, #energy, #automation, #logistics, #electronic and #software-based systems, #health technologies and #environmental solutions the region provides an incredible depth in #talent and an extremely developed high-tech supply chain. I am proud that, building on this, the ICS under my leadership was able to continue its work for Styrian companies very successfully and also expand it in important areas. Particularly important is our focus program #India, which is not only intended to make clear the importance of the most populous country and fifth largest economy in the world, but also supports our domestic companies in entering or expanding this driving market. We were also able to intensify #USA-related activities, whereby we usually work with young, highly innovative Styrian companies, for whom the US market usually becomes important, even necessary, very quickly. ZITF 2024 THEME BROADENED • The ZITF Company, organisers of the highly anticipated Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, scheduled to take place in Bulawayo from 23-27 April 2024, are excited to announce a broadened focus for the event. While the core commitment to supporting industry, commerce and overall economic development remains, the 2024 theme has been expanded to, “Innovation: The Catalyst to Industrialisation and Trade.” • The new theme recognizes that innovation and entrepreneurship are complementary forces that work together to open pathways to economic growth and progress. Entrepreneurs leverage innovation to create successful businesses, while innovation thrives through the adaptability and risk appetite of entrepreneurs. • This theme also recognizes that Zimbabwe currently boasts a vibrant and growing innovation scene, largely because of Government initiatives as espoused in the guiding Vision 2030 whose focus is on promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, equitable development, and prosperity for all. • We are also cognizant of the vital role that innovation plays not only in driving industrialization and trade, but also in ensuring a sustainable future for our planet. By focusing on innovative solutions, we aim to equip businesses with the tools and strategies they need to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape. • In addition to the multiplicity of sectors traditionally represented at ZITF, the broadened focus acknowledges the need to encompass a wider range of topics and widen the catchment of exhibiting companies to include those involved in: o Disruptive innovation and its impact on various industries, o Harnessing the power of digitalization for sustainable growth, o Grassroots innovation and tech start-ups, o Green technologies and eco-friendly business practices, o Creative initiatives that drive social responsibility and inclusive development, o Learning from and leveraging- opportunities synergies with international trading partners. • Meanwhile, as preparations for the international, multi-sectoral tradeshow are heading to a climax, the uptake by exhibitors has been quite pleasing. We are currently sitting at 98% of space capacity with 517 exhibitors who have taken up 48,881sqm square metres of the set aside 49,499 Square metres. • All exhibition halls and individual pavilions are now full and we will be erecting a marquee to house the many exhibitors who have been put on the waiting list. • International participation is also very strong. To date, we have confirmed exhibits from 27 countries namely: Botswana, Belarus, Brazil, People’s Republic of China, Kingdom of Eswatini, European Union, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America and Zambia.

Not Attending CPhI Milan 😐 Is Attending Overseas Exhibitions Like CPhI Milan as Fruitful as We Think? 🤔 As CPhI Milan kicks off, I’ve noticed that many professionals in the pharma industry, including myself, are not attending this year. This has sparked an interesting conversation: How are people feeling about attending or not attending international exhibitions these days? For those attending, there’s the undeniable excitement of networking, exploring new business opportunities, and reconnecting with industry peers. But for those of us who are not, we're starting to question: - Is the heavy investment in overseas exhibitions and setting up a stall really translating into meaningful business conversions? - How many "fruitful meetings" at such events actually turn into fruitful business? With travel, logistics, and costs involved, it raises an important question: Is it time for us to rethink the real return on investment of these global exhibitions? For young pharma entrepreneurs, this is even more critical. Should they follow the traditional path of attending big international expos or focus their resources elsewhere—building relationships locally, leveraging smaller, niche events, or investing in alternative strategies to grow their business?
