"I don't want to drive an electric car because their battery production is unsustainable" Have you heard this argument before? The EU Battery Regulation changes the rules of the game, as all batteries on the EU market must fulfill certain sustainability requirements, which will be accessible through a data carrier: the Battery Passport. 🔦 With the implementation of the Battery Passport we gain insight on - Recycled content included in the battery - The battery's carbon footprint - Responsible sourcing of materials And much more…. With my colleagues from P3 we created a roadmap for companies on how to implement the EU Battery Passport. Check it out 👇

2027 - the year of battery passports. It’s only 3 years away, so the time to act is now. By 2027, any EV and industrial battery in the EU market with a capacity of over 2 kWh must have a battery passport. And by 2025, carbon footprint must be third-party verified and publicly accessible on the internet. That’s even sooner. The complicated part of creating a battery passport is not turning it into a QR code. It is collecting all the data from the different actors in the supply chain and verifying it. And then making sure that none of that data is shared with those, who shouldn’t have it. Becoming a early adopter can be scary, but what is scarier is having to catch up with the regulations in 2027. #batterypassport #DPP #circularity #EV #traceability

As part of the Battery Pass Consortium’s ongoing efforts to provide organisations with the information they need to get ready for the EU’s battery passport, we are developing a Technical Reference Framework that offers guidance on how battery passports can be implemented by anyone in a way that is (I) legally compliant and (II) interoperable with all other battery passports. 💡 We have now published a “Technical Framework Specification for the Digital Product Passport System” which sets out our recommendation for standardisation of the European Digital Product Passport System (DPP-System) with specifics for the Battery Passport. This document provides a comprehensive framework, called “Standard Stack”, which is essential to select, evaluate and elaborate standards for the technical DPP-System. It addresses the major interoperability issues and presents the elements of the Standard Stack, required for a secure, interoperable and reliable data exchange and provision across different sectors, e.g. for EV batteries. ▶ Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eaMdnBSZ. The full Battery Passport Technical Guidance will be released later this quarter and feature prominently at HANNOVER MESSE. Register for our newsletter at https://lnkd.in/ez7JKkwf to stay tuned. With thanks to Fraunhofer IPK, FIWARE, Circulor and acatech – Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften for their ongoing leadership on this work. #dpp #standardisation #batterypassport

📢 EU Digital Product Passport: Fact vs. Myth #2 Will the EU build or buy a big system to host all EU Digital Product Passports? In our latest video, we tackle a pressing question that's causing a buzz in the industry. With the 2027 deadline approaching—driven by regulations like ESPR, the Battery Regulation, and the Toy Safety Regulation—there's confusion over the future of Digital Product Passports (DPPs). There are already over 200 DPP solutions in the market, from blockchain-based traceability systems to anti-counterfeiting tools and detailed maintenance logs for large machinery. In EU-DPP meetings, we often see solution providers either pitching their products or expressing concern that a centralized EU system could put them out of business. This video delves into whether there's an opportunity to secure the deal of the century or a risk of losing it all. We aim to clarify the EU's plans and what they mean for existing solution providers and businesses preparing for the EU-DPP. If you're navigating the complexities of the EU-DPP and wondering how it might impact your operations, this video is a must-watch. Let's separate fact from myth and gain a clearer understanding of what's on the horizon. #EUDPP #DigitalProductPassport #CircularEconomy #DPP #EURegulations

Founder - ReviveBattery BV | Speaker | Sustainability | On a mission to circularise the lead battery industry | HEC Paris ‘23 WE4G
The lack of transparency in the battery industry leads to environmental harm and ethical issues. Without proper oversight, harmful practices continue unchecked, and consumers can't make informed choices about sustainable products. Battery passports, supported by proactive government policies, can revolutionize the industry. By mandating these passports, creating collaborative platforms, offering incentives, and raising public awareness, we can ensure accountability and promote eco-friendly practices. At ReviveBattery B.V , we see battery passports as a crucial step towards a transparent and sustainable future. Let's work together to make this change a reality. #Sustainability #BatteryPassport #EcoInnovation #GreenEnergy
Sustainability is not just a buzzword anymore. It’s become a necessity. The battery passport is one of the most promising innovations in the battery landscape today. This digital twin stores every bit of data related to the battery and its lifecycle, from the origin of raw materials used to the manufacturing process and environmental impact. However, what is it that is most likely to make the difference when it comes to the widespread adoption of battery passports? The answer lies in the proactive involvement of government agencies. 1.Mandating battery passports: Governments worldwide have the unique power to set regulations and standards that can drive industries towards sustainable practices. This can ensure that manufacturers and consumers alike are accountable for the environmental impact of their products. 2.Creating platforms for dialogue and partnership: Government agencies can bridge the gap between manufacturers, recyclers, and tech developers, ensuring that the battery passport system is robust and comprehensive. This collaborative approach can develop industry-wide standards that enhance the effectiveness and reliability of battery passports. 3.Incentives: By providing financial incentives or subsidies for companies that adopt battery passports, the transition to battery passports can be accelerated. Such incentives not only make it economically viable for businesses but also encourage early adopters to lead the charge in sustainable practices. 4.Public awareness: Campaigns headed by government agencies can inform and educate consumers on the importance of battery passports. Upon understanding the benefits of using products with battery passports—such as ensuring the ethical sourcing of materials and supporting recycling initiatives—consumers are more likely to opt for these products, driving market demand. At ReviveBattery, we believe that battery passports are a key element in the journey towards a sustainable future. With the backing of proactive government policies, we can usher in an era of transparency, accountability, and environmental stewardship in the battery industry. #Sustainability #BatteryPassport #GreenTech #EnvironmentalStewardship #SustainableFuture #GovernmentRegulation #EcoInnovation #CircularEconomy #GreenEnergy #TechForGood
