A groundbreaking achievement in the field of quantum computing has been reached with the successful tape-out of a demonstrator chip designed to operate at cryogenic temperatures in the UK. The cryogenic chip is the result of a collaborative effort within a UK project involving key players such as SureCore, Agile Analog, and the University of Glasgow. Researchers at EPFL have created a device using graphene and indium selenide that operates at very low temperatures, necessary for quantum computers. Current technologies separate quantum circuits from electronic components, causing noise and inefficiencies. These spin qubits hold the key to unlocking the potential of quantum computers, and imec is at the forefront of advancing this technology.
