"The model of Proactive Health available to professional athletes has been proven to work. If we could incorporate this into the Heathcare system, I'm convinced, the general population could benefit. Fast forward to the Obstetric patient where TWO lives can be impacted. What a dream that would be." Carol Greco, MD Imagine working with a team of healthcare professionals to optimize health… just like your favorite athletes have proactive team-based care, keeping them healthy and in the game. Chief Medical Officer, CareAllies – a Cigna Company | Healthcare Executive | Focused on optimizing quality care delivery
The importance and role that primary care physicians play in public health and the communities they serve cannot be overstated. This thought summarizes what we should all endeavor for in #healthcare: “Collectively, we are all better served by taking better care of those charged with taking care of us.” Those in my orbit know I believe the best way we can help doctors is to empower them to focus more of their time and energy on caring for patients. CaringBridge is a resource that has come up in my discussions with family caregivers as an essential resource time and again. How many of you have groups of people you text, email, and/or call with updates? How many of you don't have a chance to do an update until very late at night or very early in the morning and you worry your update will disturb the folks who want to know what's going on? CaringBridge is a place where you can post one update and the people who want to know what's going on can read it when it works for them. Your support network can organize meals, make monetary donations, or whatever you need, all in one place. This is a free way to make things a little easier on yourself. I highly recommend checking it out. #caregiving #caregivers #diagnosis #dementiacaregiver #cancersupport #ALS #multiplesclerosis #parkinsons #specialneeds #dementia #hospice #healthcare #alzheimers #veterans

In the intricate landscape of healthcare, the choices we make ripple through communities, shaping lives and outcomes. Mobile Health Clinics embody accessibility, bringing care directly to underserved populations where traditional healthcare infrastructure may be lacking. Moreover, their emphasis on collaboration and partnership fosters a holistic approach, leveraging resources and expertise from various sectors to maximize impact. On the flip side, For-Profit Hospitals often operate within a framework of exclusionary practices, where financial barriers can impede access to vital services for marginalized groups. This approach may inadvertently neglect public health initiatives, diverting resources away from community-wide prevention efforts. As we reflect on these contrasting models, it's evident that the choices we make in healthcare profoundly influence the well-being of individuals and communities. Let's continue to advocate for approaches that prioritize the holistic health of all individuals, leaving no one behind. The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) is hosting a free event on "How social prescribing is revolutionising the way we look at health and wellbeing". They will explore how social prescribing can support patients to improve their health and wellbeing, with an emphasis on the function that it provides within a healthcare setting. You'll gain an increased understanding of the role that social prescribing has in providing a truly person-centred approach within health by exploring the evidence, case studies and innovations across the country. So what does this mean for planning? Simple, when planning your health hubs, don't just calculate GP space requirements, include space for Allied Health Care Practitioners and Social Prescribing. This way you are increasing capacity but also enhancing and expanding care in the community that would be best placed to tackle current and looming health and social care service challenges. It also increases the long term viability and sustainability of community health care (yes, GP's and Pharmacies do close and consolidate), and you create improved working conditions helping to retain and entice staff. Sign up now, they have limited places. https://lnkd.in/eJ67Sa3G

Listening to the 'Next Steps for Long Covid Care and Research in England' health forum by Westminster Forum Projects was truly inspiring. The discussions have reignited hope for change in addressing this complex health condition. In 2024, it's not just the patients but also the healthcare system that is actively engaged and concerned about Long Covid. My takeaways from the forum were the crucial need for funding in research and service provision and closer collaborations as the next critical step. Speakers emphasised key learnings from the past four years, underscoring the importance of involving children and young people in shaping care pathways and research initiatives. As I shared during the event, meaningful engagement of the right children as partners in research and service development can lead to enhanced patient experiences, cost savings, and improved outcomes. Collaborative efforts in including younger individuals in decision-making processes can pave the way for a more effective approach to addressing Long Covid. Overall, the forum provided a platform for valuable insights and discussions on advancing Long Covid care and research, signalling a positive shift towards a more inclusive and patient-centred healthcare approach. Here's hoping our voices are heard! #LongCovid #HealthcareForum #PatientEngagement #WHFevents #LongCovidKids #Charity

MedPAC's latest data on Home Health Agencies (2023) reveals a compelling trend that nonprofit agencies consistently excel in key quality indicators. Ranging from the rate of successful discharges back into the community to the lower rates of hospital admissions or readmissions (at any point throughout the time the patient is receiving home healthcare)- these metrics stand out as areas where nonprofit organizations outperform their for-profit counterparts. This evidence shows the impactful role nonprofit agencies play in delivering high-quality home health care, signaling a need for further recognition and support in the healthcare landscape. #homehealthcare #homehealthcareproviders LeadingAge Virginia #hospicecare #nonprofithomehealthagencies #homecare
