Imagine this: A great nurse who does an amazing job year in and year out, so one day the department director comes in and gives her a promotion to become a surgeon. Of course, it doesn't work this way. But how come then we promote great individual contributors to leadership roles without adequate training and development? Aren't we setting them up for failure when doing so? Just like nurses need training to become surgeons, great individual contributors need development to become effective leaders. Individuals who excel in their roles may possess valuable skills, but transitioning into leadership requires a different set of abilities. What would you say? ------------------------------------------------------------ Follow me, Dr. Fouad M. Facilitator, Coach, Advisor, Strategist. Helps people and teams thrive at work. Founder of Thought Architects and Coalition for Regenerative Work.
I had assumed that anyone who applied for a poster was accepted. Imagine how surprised I was to learn it was a competitive process, and only a bit over half made it through! I am not a researcher, but I knew that the way we were teaching physicians coaching skills was impacting their mindsets in significant ways. I wanted to know in what ways, specifically? Why was that? My curiosity led me and Sofia Valanci to present this poster at Institute of Coaching at Harvard. We now know that when physicians learn how to use coaching skills in the workplace, it reduces their levels of #burnout as measured both quantitatively and qualitatively. Why? It enhances #connection with others, which acts as a “burnout insulator”. It reduces anxiety in practice, which impacts emotional #exhaustion. It helps providers find the #joy in the work and get back to “being with patients” in real and #authentic ways. I know not every coaching skills program will do this. I do know that the way we create a personalized learning experience that offers safety, co-creation, social construction and the chance for physicians to take time for personal development is unique, and is what helps support this shift. Coaching is not a declared skill. Coaching is a skill that needs reflection, time, social interaction, and practice. Coaching is a mindset and way of adding to personal identity. People learn when in community with others. We at Thought Architects are super proud of what we have been able to contribute to improve the state of healthcare today! Many thanks to Rhonda St.Croix and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for supporting this work financially and through your support!
Guess who is presenting a poster at the Institute of Coaching ? Institute of Coaching is hosting their annual Coaching in Leadership & Healthcare conference in #boston Margie Sills-Maerov and Sofia Valanci are presenting the promising results of the Coaching for Wellness project. Special thanks to Sam Daniel , main author and precious partner in this project! I am honored that "Auricle Global Society of Education and Research" recently published two of our researches both in two Q1 journals while both papers were in the area of education. 1. Technological Evolution and Workforce Preparedness: Assessing Adaptability in Georgian Universities (Case study of Tbilisi State University). By Bahman Moghimi and my colleague Dr. Eka Gegeshidze , published in "Linguistic and Philosophical Investigations" ISSN: ISSN: 1841-2394. Our findings provide practical implications for universities, policymakers, and employers in Georgia and similar contexts, also suggesting targeted interventions to improve student preparedness for future not-very-predictable job markets. 2. Impact of Leadership Development Programs on Evidence-Informed Teaching Practices (Case Study of Four Private Universities in Tbilisi, Georgia). By Bahman Moghimi and my colleague Dr. Shalva Dundua , published in "Review of Contemporary Philosophy" ISSN: 1841-5261. Our findings suggest that tailored leadership development programs, which address very specific needs and challenges, alongside fostering a collaborative culture and sustained professional development, can significantly enhance educational outcomes. These studies underscores the need for broader multi-discipline education leadership strategies and government-funded initiatives along with cross-border collaborations to further these educational goals.

A recent study reported in the paper titled “Community Leadership Institute for Equity: Planning Processes and Procedures to Develop Partnered Conferences” focuses processes and procedures using community-partnered participatory research (CPPR) to plan conferences to develop community leadership training infrastructure. The planning process emphasized bidirectional learning for community and academic members for research and services/policy to benefit communities, within a Community Leadership Institute for Equity (C-LIFE) to promote equity and power sharing for community leaders. The study concluded that it was feasible to use CPPR to plan Zoom conferences to promote community leadership training across multiple sites. This study was published in Journal of Program Community Health Partnership in 2024. Author list included Olga Solomon from CHLA UCEDD. Other authors included: Felica Jones, Angela Young-Brinn, Juanita Booker-Vaughns, Clarence Williams, Madeline Washington, Hafifa Siddiq Shabaik, Adrian Oliva, and Kenneth B Wells. #community #leadership #training #cppr #research #study
