Following up on a question/discussion we shared last week- plans do change. One minute you have full enrollment, then for any reason families decide to back out, and now your number is down again. So now what? At this stage you should be looking at your waitlists to pull in families to fill these unexpected gaps. People in the Access to Work space, have you noticed fewer people being awarded support workers? I’ve definitely noticed a shift when picking up enquiries following an award! It’s very concerning and will mean more clients needing to ask for it to be looked at again. I’ve supported a few clients with the SWROT forms so ATW can reconsider the needs. These are not clients who we supported with the application process so it could be that the original application lacked the details and specifics. Be very clear and detailed in your application if you’re asking for a support worker and remember it must be linked to your work struggles- ALWAYS link it back to work! We are here to help if you would like help to apply or want to submit further information to ATW to get a support worker. I’m delighted that when we have completed SWROT on clients behalf, we have been successful in getting the extra support they need 🙌🏼 *SWROT is support worker record of tasks. The wonderful Alex Langhorn PGDipE and I were talking about employees leaving the other day, and how a business manages this process. As all of us that have employees working in our businesses to built our proposition will be in this position at one time or another, as people develop and move on. Over the years we have seen some really awful leaver practices such as: 👉 employees accruing a debt to the business for every single bit of development the business has paid to put them through (including courses on Excel training!) 🤦♀️ And being made to repay this debt when they leave (as it is not as if the business benefitted in anyway is it??!!!) Apologies this feels like a bit of a Thursday morning rant 🤣 👉 employers becoming very petty with the person leaving, as if it is a personal affront to them and all the time and effort they have put into this person. A personal favourite is a leaver being asked to return a company biro they were using before they left (we are not talking a Mont Blanc pen btw here folks 🤣🤣). 👉 employees being scared to put in their notice and concerned about the reaction they will get from their managers. It's never easy to lose a valued employee that has developed in their time with you, as they will leave a big gap. How do we feel at Bespoke Training Solutions Ltd when we have been in this situation? 👉 Thrilled that we have helped said individual grow in confidence, and in their skills set, to the extent that they are ready for their next challenge. 👉 Grateful for the time they have spent with us and the positive impact they have made on our business and our culture. 👉 A teeny weeny bit proud that we have done our bit in their development and their career journey. 👉 So happy to share in their excitement for the future. We don't live in an employment market anymore where individuals stay with the same firm for all their working life, like my dad's generation were more like to do. This picture always makes me chuckle as it sums up the diversity of the Bespoke Training Solutions Ltd team so well. We argue over which animal best reflects our personalities (I usually get the bull, no idea why 🤣🤣). What is the worst leaver experience you have had? What's been the best? The importance of onboarding new team members in the right way isn't lost on me or anyone at innergy Group Ltd. How do we know we are getting it right? We work hard to get to know people properly right from the very start of their career as an innergy colleague. We know how important the first few weeks can be when everything is new, and you don't even know where the tea (Yorkshire of course) is kept. During this period, we regularly check in with new colleagues so they can give us feedback on how well they think things are going. One of our newest drivers David took the time out to write to me this week and this is what he had to say. "I came from a quite stressful environment before I joined innergy, the contrast has been quite remarkable, life is happier, everyone who works here has been very welcoming. The people close to me at home have commented how happier I seem within myself, which I find reassuring and long may it continue. The training has been good and thorough, all subjects were covered, and I had the reassurance that if I was in a quandary I only had to make a phone call. I learned a great deal from the ADR training but, in the short time I have been here, I have picked up lots of tips from many members of staff which all help me on a day-to-day basis." We don’t own our employees. We can only train them well enough to work anywhere and treat them well enough that they will never want to leave (Richard Branson). Less emphasis on control. More emphasis on negotiating terms everyone enjoys for the length of the relationship.
