🎉 We were thrilled to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Education for Change Public Schools Achieve Academy in the heart of Oakland's Fruitvale! After completing a three-phase renovation, the campus now offers a vibrant space for TK-5 students, featuring new and newly remodeled classrooms, a soccer field, basketball and tetherball courts, and a playground. The finishing touch? Stunning murals by the Bay Area Mural Program Inc. that bring the campus to life! The campus reflects the culture of student community and their vision of themselves as Dreamers. 🌟 We had the privilege of hearing from three incredible students about how the new campus is making a difference in their daily lives. Their excitement and pride are a testament to the impact this space will have on the Fruitvale community for years to come. Congratulations to everyone involved in this transformative project! 🎈🏫 Overaa Construction Artik Art & Architecture Noll & Tam Architects #PCSD #CharterSchools #CharterSchoolFacilities #CommunityImpact #EducationForChange #OaklandSchools #AchieveAcademy #RibbonCutting #BuildingBrighterFutures

Transforming a 43,606-square-foot facility into a modern elementary school is no small feat. Especially when it involves undoing years of ad-hoc renovations. Kroeschell’s team took on the challenge of renovating an aging school in Colorado, initially used for trade-based education. With limited as-built documentation and outdated architectural plans, we meticulously navigated the complexities to bring the facility up to code. Every corner was touched, every detail considered. The result? A safer, more functional learning environment that meets today's standards. Can you believe it's time for going back to #school? Many of our #Houston area districts are back in session or go back this week, and it made us pause to think how we can help #inspire #students... and hopefully the ways in which we already have. The truth is that each of these young people are already inspired, inspiring, and intrinsically have their own unique talents and purposes. It's our job - as construction industry professionals and [many of us] as parents - to give them the space and tools to develop the gifts they already have. One of the ways we currently make that happen is by assisting with open space design. This Kwik-Wall operable wall gives the same space the opportunity to serve two functions at the same time, and the markerboard finish makes it a functional space for instruction and creativity. Ultimately, this piece was an investment by Humble ISD leadership and parents in their children's futures, and we couldn't be more #proud to have been a part of it. If you're looking for new #flexible space solutions, give us a call at 713-781-3287 to learn how we can help with designing, installing, and servicing the products that make your #education spaces work. #FoodForThought #WhatWeveBeenBuilding #BackToSchool #K12 #Education #OpWall #Architects #Construction

We have documented the construction of a wide range of education facilities, from primary schools to universities. Our systems capture the entire building process, recording the development of spaces where future generations will learn and grow. Each project, whether a primary school, middle school, high school, college, or university, is recorded in detail, showing the building's progress until it is a completed educational institution. The footage serves as a visual record of the work that goes into creating environments for education, highlighting the construction milestones that shape these vital community assets. Through time-lapse, the transformation of architectural designs into functional learning spaces is preserved, creating a lasting record of the development of educational infrastructure. #education #tes #schoolbuild #timelapse #timelapseUK #schoolconstruction

Evolution of unplanned pathways: an example of how unplanned development and historical changes in key pathways and green spaces can become integral to a built environment layout over time. The Oval and Long Walk at Ohio State University were not included in the original campus design but developed organically over time. As new buildings were constructed, students began creating their own paths across the grass, which influenced the eventual layout of sidewalks, including the Long Walk. The campus was initially designed like an English manor, with pathways intersecting what is now the Oval. These features shape the mental map of the university, guiding movement and serving as key reference points. Their evolution reflects the changing needs and formalization of campus navigation. #wayfinding #navigation #mentalmap #UrbanPlanning #LandscapeArchitecture #SpatialDesign

NEWS: University of Tennessee Opens Agriculture and Natural Resources Building -- The University of Tennessee opened the $93 million Agriculture and Natural Resources Building in Knoxville in August of 2024. The four-story, 161,862-gsf facility provides the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources with both interdisciplinary and specialized lab environments for teaching, research, and public service. Designed by Barber McMurry Architects and Lord Aeck Sargent, the four-story development includes 25 labs, 11 flexible classrooms, lecture halls, and offices. Informal interaction and knowledge exchange is enhanced by activated corridors with numerous collaboration nodes. The highly adaptable and modular structure features a 500-seat auditorium that can be easily subdivided for smaller group sizes. This multifunctional space leverages movable furniture to host academic functions during the day and informal gatherings on evenings and weekends. An expansive commons area with food service opens onto a welcoming pedestrian plaza. Topped by a green roof encircled by research gardens, the sustainable facility provides space for the U.S. Forest Inventory and Analysis program, as well as new offices and classrooms for the UT Institute of Agriculture. A seamless learning community is created through connections to existing buildings on all levels. Christman Constructors, Inc. was the general contractor for the project, which broke ground in spring of 2021. https://lnkd.in/e7ih8k-d #HigherEducation #LaboratoryTeaching #LaboratoryResearch #EducationClassroom #EducationFacultyOffice #Auditorium #InterdisciplinaryResearch #Collaboration #Sustainability

For this year’s final #BlackHistoryMonth community spotlight, KAI looks to the Arlington Grove Apartments project. Located in the City of St. Louis, this special project included the redevelopment of the William B. Ittner designed Arlington School, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register of Historic Places, managed by the National Park Service, aims to facilitate public and private initiatives in identifying, assessing, and safeguarding America's historical and archaeological assets. KAI was chosen by the St. Louis Housing Authority to perform Design-Build services and transform the block into a $34 million, 162,000 square foot mixed-income and mixed-finance residential development that includes 112 units of apartments, townhouses, and semi-detached housing as well as a mixed-use building and renovated school. The 91 construction housing units included a heavy emphasis on sustainability that positively impacts both the residents and the community for years to come. The opportunity to help provide people in underserved areas with a meaningful place to live and a starting point for a better future is something on which we’ve built our legacy. Our mission of transforming communities is part of every project we take part in and is a mission we strive for with each step we take into the future. SIGNAL: To do that, New York needs to build more housing, and it can. New York could add dwellings for well over a million people — homes most New Yorkers could afford — without substantially changing the look and feel of the city. My architecture firm, Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, previously worked with Times Opinion to imagine the future of the city’s rail infrastructure and streets. This time, we took a fresh look at housing. We found a way to add more than 500,000 homes — enough to house more than 1.3 million New Yorkers — without radically changing the character of the city’s neighborhoods or altering its historic districts. - - - Tags: economics, policy - - - What is this? Signals are part of Adventuring Ventures' research methodology for exploring possible futures. A signal is a small or local phenomenon and a potential sign of change that might grow in scale, where it shows up, or who it influences. The tags refer to 5 lenses through which we look for signals - society, technology, economics, ecology, and policy. - - -

Every month we like to choose a project to feature. This month, we’ve chosen Bloxham School, Stonehill House. Stonehill House was nominated for ‘Project of the Year’ at OxPropFest Awards 2023. The thriving independent coeducation school required a solution that would enable the school to achieve 40 boarding places, as well as a new common room and tutor room, to facilitate growth of the school. *Project challenge* There are challenges to overcome with every project, and that is what makes each one unique and interesting to work on. Those challenges are one of the reasons we chose Bloxham School as our Project of the Month. Key considerations: - Located in a conservation area - Grade II listed building - Limited vehicular access - Structural challenges - Proximity to residential properties Take a look at the journey and how the school achieved its vision: https://lnkd.in/eP75NzxE #featuredproject #planning #bloxham #oxfordshire #planningpermission #school #conservationarea #listedbuilding Image credit: Clews Architects and Andy Marshall, Fotofacade
