Feeling inspired by the #OpenDoorClimate initiative. In just few months 1700 climate professionals have already committed to opening their calendars to get more talent into the field! So I'm joining - I’m implementing an #opendoorclimate policy for anyone wanting to chat about pursuing a career in environmental policies and public affairs. 🌏 ☀ 🌱 I'm a big fan of cold emails and reaching out to strangers. Professionally, it always led to involving always more ambitious stakeholders in the Platform for Electromobility, bringing their expertise to EU policymakers to ensure the green transition is a success for people, the planet, and European businesses alike. Personally, it's always great to connect with students, researchers, and business developers working on the ground to make the transition a reality. My specialties: European Union Green Deal, sustainable transports, industrial policies for competitive yet low-carbon sectors, strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, #connectingthedots. If you're considering working in environmental policies but have questions, please DM me or comment. I'll share what I know. If you want to work on destroying methane, this could be a job for you. The CDR industry need to care a lot about methane because it’s short term potential is much worse per tonne than CO2 and rapidly thawing/decomposing “permafrost” could quickly raise methane levels. I have an idea for some methods/concepts around generating hydroxyl radicals (OH) to destroy methane (and hydrogen leaks) - happy to share them - https://lnkd.in/e6USxcR6 “Hydroxyl radicals: Detergent of the atmosphere” https://lnkd.in/e6USxcR6
We're hiring for a Methane Removal Program Director at Spark Climate Solutions. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the growth and formation stages of a new climate field. The Program Director will lead field-building efforts in the emerging field of methane removal and lead a small team. The ideal candidate has a strong scientific background, and interdisciplinary strategic and team leadership experience. No existing experience in methane removal is required. Methane removal approaches are being researched to determine how methane, once in the atmosphere, can be broken down faster than with existing natural systems alone to help lower peak temperatures, and counteract some of the impact of increasing natural methane emissions, such as from tropical wetlands and permafrost. Methane removal is not a replacement for methane, or any other greenhouse gas, emissions reductions, which are crucial. With growing scientific interest and a National Academies of Sciences study underway, it’s a critical period to steward the development of the research field around methane removal to support it growing quickly and responsibly. Spark’s Methane Removal program focuses on building a robust, diverse, and science-driven field to accelerate research, inform policy, and ensure appropriate governance, including via research funding, policymaker engagement, scientific community-building efforts, scientific roadmapping, education, and coalition-building. To date, the program is the single-largest funder of scientific research into methane removal. Please share to help us find a great fit, or if this is you, we look forward to your application! https://lnkd.in/gSFssF6Z
