❗@portofla announced that cargo levels in July were at a record-breaking 939,600 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units, a 37% increase this year. Only seven months into 2024, the Port of Los Angeles is 18% ahead of its 2023 pace.😷 While this is good for business, this is bad for the lungs and health of port-adjacent community residents. Each additional dirty, polluting ocean cargo ship means more bad air for communities. The San Pedro Bay Ports are the largest source of smog and particulate forming pollution statewide, contributing to LA county being in nonattainment with federal Clean Air Act standards for over two decades. ❌ The @SouthCoastAQMD has delayed the #PortISR twice, yet the ISR is urgently needed to mitigate fossil-fuel pollution from ocean going ships. With the recent victory of frontline communities advocating for a railyard ISR, port community residents are hopeful that SCAQMD will also pave the way for zero-emission ports through an ISR. We need our leaders to clean up ocean shipping and act on a #PortISR now. Mayor Karen Bass. 🚢⚡ https://bit.ly/3Au0RE1
