One of our greatest presidents (and lawyers) never went to law school. Instead Lincoln "read the law" which usually meant apprenticing under an active attorney. But since that proved difficult, Lincoln literally read the law books of lawyers he knew and was eventually cleared to practice in Illinois. I bring this up because it's impossible today. Not really difficult, but impossible. Passing the #bar in #Illinois requires attending a law school for three years... where they don't really teach you how to be a lawyer, just to "think like one". I'm just sayin' #A2J #legalengineering

Cardinal took its partnership with Harvard Law School to the next level last week with its first IN-PERSON discussion of the New York legal market. The 1L turnout was impressive – a packed house! Awesome to see how seriously and thoughtfully these students are already taking their 2L summer decision-making process. We look forward to being a resource to them all next year! #legalcareer #BigLaw #cardinalsearch

THIS IS A PERSONAL ACCOUNT Assistant District Attorney General - Trial attorney handling criminal cases. Opinions my own.
Law students, Do you want to try cases? If you do, you are going to have to do two things: 1. Lose almost everything that law school teaches you. Law school is not a trial school. It's an appellate school. Appellate law and trial law are not the same. Most of your professors were not trial lawyers. This is not a hit on appellate work. Appellate work is fantastic. I think more law students should seriously look at getting into appellate work. 2. You have to go work at a place that does trials. Because if you don't, you aren't seeing how trials really work. Intern at a place that goes to court and tries cases. Inns of Court, mock court, you name it - all wonderful. But not the same at real trials. You have to, have to, have to find a place that will allow you to put what you train into practice. Two groups try the most cases: Prosecutors and Public Defenders. Nobody else comes close. And no other group allows young lawyers to handle cases as the first chair. #lawstudents
