How strange it is that time behaves like a fluid near some remote corners of the world. Within these pockets, it comes to stagnation and refuses to take part in the bulk flow. *** In its heyday, Soviet modernism influenced architecture all over the world, including public spaces in my hometown. I like to think that an identical corner existed somewhere in Moscow at some point. A lot of them must have crumbled after the shock-waves of the implosion. Earth Celebration #9. In 2016 I started the "Gratitude" series to show how beautiful and precious our planet is. There is only one Earth, much work is needed to preserve it for future generations. White is the color of new beginnings, protection and encouragement. When viewing her paintings from afar, the canvases on her “Gratitude” series take on a placid, tranquil look. Only by moving closer will all kinds of surprises be revealed. With a manipulation of pure oils using only the palette knife, these “nature maps” mimic many shapes and events that occur solely in nature. You might see fields, rivers and whole villages. The lines sculpted on top are actual wind patterns. The air that you can feel but never see. They emphasize our fleeting human condition and how pressing is to take action now. Artificial Rome #INTERPLAY We created a generative installation within the atrium of the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. The seventeen-metre-tall artwork, displayed on a towering screen sculpture spans across three floors of the museum. The permanent installation is visible from every angle inside the atrium. The frames change so that they appear differently at any given time. This means that visitors can experience an ever-changing simulation of the elements every time they pass through the atrium. INTERPLAY is a permanent installation, 10 meters high wrapped in an everlasting simulation of wind and water, causing erosions, while the eroded mountains in return cause the tides to shift. The generative artwork consists of a real-time environment that runs a realistic simulation of how tides and stones interconnect over time. The time variable is sped up one thousandfold, so the visitors of the Humboldt Forum see a simulation of the impact on earth's landscape over the next million years. Whether it’s the towering size of the sculptures or their fantastical subjects like witches and sea monsters, it’s hard to find a visitor at Grounds for Sculpture without a smile on their face. This sprawling art park in Hamilton Township is unlike any you’ve ever been to. There is a theme park quality to the experience and that is not meant to diminish the importance of the works found within. The park has somehow managed to make art-viewing a family-friendly activity. One reason why young people respond to the sculptures is because it’s one of the rare places where you can get right up close to them, touch them, and in some cases, such as Roberto Lugo’s Put Yourself in the Picture, climb on top of them. Everything you might need — food, snacks, coffee, even cocktails — is found here, making it easy to take your time. It is the sort of place that rewards exploration. Not all the artworks are found along the walking paths. Some are in little clearings or down side-alleys and other works can only be spied while looking in unexpected places. Grounds for Sculpture is easily accessible via public transportation. Take the Northeast Corridor train from Newark Penn Station to Hamilton Station (one stop after Princeton Junction).
