The SNEC-SERI faculty is proud to present the latest issue of Eye-Sight. Here we focus on our youngest patients: babies who need extra care for their eye health. Newborn babies born prematurely may need careful monitoring for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a disease that can have grave consequences for a child’s vision. Other highlights include: · The long-term safety of Atropine eyedrops in myopia control where there is no increased incidence of complications such as cataracts in adulthood 10-20 years later. · How our post-graduate nurses are upskilling themselves to lead thermal treatment for dry eye disease. · Our very first nurse clinician, Nazurah Loh. In an interview, she describes her path to success in nursing. Download a copy of our #EyeSight from our website: https://lnkd.in/gBGcbkiq Happy reading! #SNECSERI #EyeCare #Atropine #ROP #EyeSight

Nurse Driven Mobility Intervention (NDMI) is a method of early mobility for hospitalized older adults. NDMI includes training for nurses by PT's and/or OT's. Patients were asked to consent to NDMI within 24 hours of admission and if criteria was met, nurses could begin early mobilization. With early mobilization, there was a significant improvement in BTS (Balance tracking system), indicating that patients retained their balance and physical strength upon discharge. This is a huge indicator to reducing risk of falls as many older adults are hospitalized and may be discharged with increased risk of falls due to immobilization. #OlderAdults #Hospitalizations #EarlyMobilization #Ambulation #walking https://lnkd.in/gWdQpHmQ

Shining a Light on Obstetric Violence in Nursing - Join me for a panel discussion on Sept 19. As healthcare providers, it’s our duty to ensure every patient feels respected and safe. Yet, obstetric violence remains a harsh reality in some birth settings— unintentional whether through coercion, lack of informed consent, or dismissive care. Trauma-informed care is crucial in addressing these issues, fostering environments where patients’ voices are heard and respected. Let’s work together to create a culture of empathy, dignity, and empowerment in obstetric nursing. 💪 Join me for a panel discussion on this topic based on the recent publication: Exposing the Role of Labor and Delivery Nurses as Active Bystanders in Preventing or Perpetuating Obstetric Violence 2024 AWHONN Ohio Annual Conference - September 19-20 co-panelists: Cristen Pascucci, Paula Rojas Landivar, Maggie Runyon #ObstetricViolence #TraumaInformedCare #NursingLeadership #PatientAdvocacy
