Government Targets Single-Use MedTech Waste with New Initiative The Health and Social Care Secretary has launched a campaign to reduce waste in NHS England by phasing out single-use medical technology. Tens of millions of disposable items are discarded after just one use. MedTech companies are being encouraged to develop sustainable alternatives, potentially saving millions of pounds and reinvesting those funds into NHS frontline services while boosting the economy. This initiative is part of a broader effort to cut costs and enhance efficiency in healthcare. https://lnkd.in/gbSTEKET

NHS Trusts and healthcare organisations invited to take part in co-developing a prototype to help understand, report and manage the carbon footprint of their care pathways. The NHS is committed to becoming the world's first net zero national health service by 2040. With this commitment comes a series of objectives, actions and reporting responsibilities for all health and care organisations. The Net Zero Health and Care Pathway Tool uses a global standard for calculating greenhouse gas emissions and applies this across an entire care pathway. Not only does this simplify measurement and reporting but by capturing carbon cost across care pathways, rather than at a functional or departmental level, plans and performance can be more accurately evaluated to improve decision-making and accelerate system-wide progress. We are offering access to the prototype version, free of charge, for NHS trusts or organisations wanting to be at the forefront of sustainable healthcare innovation To find out more, please follow this link https://bit.ly/3WNdpxQ #NHS #NHStrust #nezero #Healthcare Olu Akinremi Becky Jones

Val Elderkin like any good advent calendar you really want to get the chocolates behind every door :-) And these are all opportunities, particularly in terms of pushing health away from treatment and into prevention and investing on those most in need of help. I am a little conflicted - particularly with the raft of these that concern equity - how much do you focus on driving equity as opposed to improving healthcare with not much change in equity? Do all innovations have to drive health equity? Almost certainly, but to what extent. In terms of NHS agency: 11, 12, 13 if I can have three. (Honourable mention: innovation.)
Apart from number 3, where do you think the NHS should be focussing and why? All thoughts gratefully received as I explore all the facets of sustainability for us healthcare leaders under the wise tuition of Matt Gitsham

Day 2 Exploring PPP Models in Healthcare at GluCare.Health .. Today, we had the privilege of discussing the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in healthcare with Ihsan Almarzooqi Tammam Al-Dandachi focusing on how governments and private sectors collaborate to improve services and innovate care delivery. Key Insights from the PPP Model: ✅ Collaboration: The government commissions private entities to design, build, and manage healthcare facilities. ✅ Performance-Based Payments: Private entities are incentivized to maintain high operational standards, with penalties for service failures. ✅ Innovation: Encourages cost-effective, cutting-edge solutions in facility construction and operations. ✅ Risk Management: Allocates risks to the party best equipped to handle them. From hybrid models that blend infrastructure management with non-clinical services to opportunities for integrating innovation, PPP models promise a transformative approach to healthcare delivery in the region. A big thank you to GluCare.Health for hosting us and facilitating such meaningful discussions on advancing healthcare! #HealthcareInnovation #PPPModel #PublicPrivatePartnership #GCCHealthcare #InnovationInHealthcare #HealthcareCollaboration

Shaping a sustainable future for healthcare 🌿 The UK government’s 10-year health plan has the potential to transform healthcare delivery over the next decade. With its focus on moving from hospitals to communities, analogue to digital, and treatment to prevention, this plan offers a unique opportunity to align health goals with sustainability. At the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, we believe sustainability must be a core priority in this plan. By embedding principles such as green social prescribing, community resilience, and low-carbon digital technologies, we can achieve better outcomes for both people and the planet. Over the coming months and years, we will work to influence the development and execution of the 10-year plan to ensure it maximises benefits for both people and the planet. By integrating its health and climate goals, the government has a unique opportunity to achieve better outcomes for patients and the environment.
